Mia Maelzer who is gearing up for her short film ‘The Field’s world screening at International film festival TIFF 2018 (Toronto International Film Festival) said the shooting wasn’t easy but she the best team to got her through it like a pro.
Actress Maelzer interacted with media before she left to attend the ‘TIFF 2018’ for the screening of ‘The Field’ in the short film selection.
The short film is a collaboration of French, British and Indian Filmmakers which was shot in Haryana. When asked about her shooting experience she shared, “The film’s content was thoroughly researched and written by the director (Sandhya) Suri. As an actress I went through the prep like a method actor, in real location almost under 49 degrees last summer. The conditions were extreme but because I had the best team around me in every department so I was flowing through it all like a pro. The villagers didn’t even realize for a long time that I am an actress.
In India people except a lot of high makeup and Bollywood version of glamorous girls. I was just the opposite of it all. That actually helped me in my study and developed this character along with my director to make it as real as we could. NSD (National School of Drama) training did help me to work like this as in school every project we did is done with great detail too.”
‘The Field’ is the story of Lalla, a poor agricultural labourer that leads a double life in the village’s last remaining cornfield. This French Film by Lionfish Films Production is Directed by Sandhya Suri.
The short film ‘The Field’ first premiered at the Telluride Film Festival 2018.
Talking about her first visit to TIFF for the selection she said the international film festival visit is a dream come true.
“I am extremely excited for my first international film festival visit. Two years ago I got nominated as best actress in Nice in International Film Maker’s Festival for a film. But this time it is even a bigger platform and probably the best ones in the world we are headed to.
Standing next to Nandita Das Ma’am, Nawaz Bhai n Anurag Kashyap Sir, Dev Patel , representing India is definitely a dream come true moment that I made to with my persistence.”
Mia is currently shooting for another Netflix project while ‘The Field’ will next travel to the BFI London Film Festival 2018 (British Film Institute) in competition category.
