It is nice to take a back seat and watch men do something for women: Gauri Shinde

Published on

Director Gauri Shinde who was present along with husband R Balki attended a special preview of ‘Pad Man’ organized for members of IMC ladies. During interaction Gauri said, sometimes it is nice to take a back seat and watch men do something for women.

Gauri was all praises for husband Balki at the event, when talking about how proud she feels of the Pad Man team she said, “I would love to take all the credit for whatever he does but that’s not the truth unfortunately and I am so proud actually that it’s the men who are sort of heralding this. Akshay, Balki, Vivek it’s amazing that the men who have come together to do this. Sometimes it is nice to take a back seat and watch men do something for women. We should not judge because I think they have it in them so we should let the good men come out and do this.”

Filmmaker Balki also shared his experience with working on the script he said, it ever felt like he was making a film because it was genuinely a beautiful script. “I think first hats off to Twinkle Khanna for thinking of making a movie like this, because very few people can attempt to do such a story. For me, writing it along with my writing partner Swanand Kirkire was a beautiful task because his (Arunachalam Muruganatham) life story was like a thriller.

I keep telling him that his life is a thriller, and who can lead a more thrilling life than this. For me, it was like just packaging it in a classic love story. Writing it in a way that is not exactly the way he did it but 80% of truth and 20% of fiction for commercial purpose.”

When asked about Muruganatham’s response to the film Balki said, “When he saw the film day before yesterday, he was really emotional watching his own journey onscreen. And that for me was the most special moment throughout the journey of this film. Imagine making a film on life of a man and that person watching his own life onscreen, that was truly biggest moment for this film”

Padman starring Sonam Kapoor, Radhika Apte and Akshay Kumar in the lead roles is directed by R. Balki. It is a biopic on Arunachalam Muruganantha, who created a revolution in the field of affordable menstrual hygiene.

‘Pad Man’ is being produced by Twinkle Khanna, KriArj Entertainment and released on 9th February 2018.
