Published on

Amidst of raging controversy over Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial “Padmavati” and “Karni Sena”, the Central Board of Film Certification has returned the film, without any certification, citing “technical deficiencies”.

The Parsoon Joshi led Censor Board finally picked a side, they are against freedom of expression, the board has returned the film to the filmmaker without any certification, days before its release, citing technical deficiencies, this might delay the film further.

After filing the application for censor certification, the board is allowed 68 days from the date of receiving an application to grant a certificate. CBFC first reviews the application, then allots a date to review the film’s content, and then suggests changes, or grants a certificate in one of the four categories. Alternatively, CBFC may also refuse certification to a film. In Padmavati’s case, it has been sent back.

Ever since the Karni Sena open protest against Padmavati, the censor board has been stalling the film and it has been sent back.
Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh Starrer Padmavati is based on the epic poem Padmavat (1540) by Malik Muhammad Jayasi.

The film is based on the legend of Rani Padmavati, a legendary Hindu Rajput queen; she was the wife of Ratan Sen, the Rajput ruler of Mewar.
In 1303, Alauddin Khilji, the Turko-Afghan ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, laid siege to the Chittor Fort in Rajputana. Khilji led the invasion motivated by his desire to capture Rani Padmavati.
The movie is slated for 1st December 2017 release.
