Raqeeb Movie Review: No Rivals Here

Published on

If you are thinking that it is impossible to try and get tickets first weekend after a film’s release because everyone wants to see the film, you will be pleasantly surprised when you will easily get the tickets. You see, by then most people would have read the reviews for the film Raqeeb and only the brave and foolhardy will venture out to watch the film.

Debutante director Anuraag Singh’s flick Raqeeb is about three men rivaling for the same girl (or so I guess). Competitor No. 1 is Remo (Rahul Khanna) who is a businessman with a thriving empire. Orphaned at a young age, he is painfully shy and has no other friends save Siddharth (Sharman Joshi) who is also one of his employees. The latter sets him up on a blind date owing to the fact that he will die a bachelor otherwise. This blind date is with Sofie (Tanushree Dutta). To the amazement of all, the “shy” boy ends up smooching the wannabe actress just to prove he isn’t gay. This obviously leads to love and the two get married.

Competitor No.2 is a scorned lover Sunny (Jimmy Shergill). He had Sofie’s love at one time, but she chose luxury over poverty and ran off to wed the tycoon. But then they meet again and the old flame is re kindled. They both plot to do away with Remo and to make matters easy, he is an asthma patient. So everything seems good, but after Remo dies, Sunny is accused of murder by a sobbing Sofie. You see, she double crossed him for, any guesses? That’s right! Competitor No.3. No prizes for guessing who that is.

Tanushree Dutta and Rahul Khanna in Raqeeb

This flick actually reeks of flicks like Humraaz and Jism. Unfortunately, it is not as well made as either. I really refuse to understand what the director was thinking when the evil scheming of the heroine is revealed long before intermission. So you see Anuraag, it’s not a suspense anymore.

Tanushree Dutta and Jimmy Shergill in Raqeeb

The acting, this is going to take long. Rahul Khanna rarely shows his handsome face in Hindi cinema, but when he does, it invariably is in very forgettable ones. Tanushree Dutta has been branded as the cheap girl of Bollywood and try as she might; she really is not even a poor man’s Bipasha. It is unbelievable that she wears lingerie on screen and expects it to pass off as stylish clothing. The only saving grace is Sharman Joshi, but wonder why he did something like this because one good actor can’t save an entire movie.

The mind boggles at the dialogues that are really really bad! I mean, Tanushree actually delivers an “emotional” one when she proclaims that a woman falls in love with a man’s heart, not his phephre (lungs)! I thought I would weep at that. May be they did not pay the dialogue writer. The music is passable, but I think totally wasted on this film.

After reading this, I implore you not to watch it. Donate the money instead. At least someone will bless you and you won’t end up cursing yourself after watching it. But even if you decide to watch it (though you might need to be committed for that), do not bother to book in advance because no one is going to compete for the tickets for this disaster.

  1. Tanushree looks indeed hot in this movie. There are some good scenes as well. Enjoyable movie in all.

We wanna see more of Tanushree !

  2. Tanushree is a hot black beauty with great assets. I am sure she has a great future in movies. She does act well and has a nice voice too. She might need to shed a few kilos of weight and then she will become superhit.

A better face to look for compared to the artificial (and fake) beauty of likes of Aishwarya.

  3. How old is Tanushree? 20 odd? For that age with great assets, she has a promising time in the tinsel town.
