Tigmanshu Dhulia feels corporate’s doesn’t understand cinema and they don’t love films

On Thursday, Tigmanshu Dhulia interacted with media on the eve of release of his next film Raagdesh in Mumbai. Tigmanshu is national award winning director who has directed some path breaking films like Haasil, Saheb Biwi and Gangster, Paan Singh Tomar stated that corporate doesn’t understand cinema and they don’t love films.

Tigmanshu also commented on corporate’s entry into film content producing business, he said, “Earlier when corporate wasn’t there in films, our film’s success ratio was better. Each year we release around 250 films and out of that only 2-3 films are big hits and other 5-6 are moderate success but no one know results of remaining films. There is only positive thing happening after entry of corporate is that, it is supporting different kind of films especially small budgets films which are high on content and new technicians are getting work. They are able to nurture the talent in the industry but before that they were selling soaps or ships and now they are selling films. They don’t understand cinema and I feel they don’t have love for the films”.

Tigmanshu also talked about current generation of directors, he said, “The current generations of directors who came from outside Mumbai like me, Anurag Basu, Anurag Kashyap, Sujoy Ghosh, Dibakar Banerjee, Shoojit Sircar, Imtiaz Ali, Sriram Raghavan they are doing really good work. They have fresh and unique way of storytelling which reflects from their films”.

Talking about his film Raagdesh, he said, “It’s a different film. Audience is so used to see typical bollywood masala film but Raagdesh not a typical Bollywood film and I think it’s a good thing because if we want to compete with international cinema then we need to raise the standard of our films as today audience is exposed to world cinema whether they belong to small town or metro cities and I feel Raagdesh is proper step towards that exercise. We have made this film with lot of hard work. It’s not bambaiya film (Masala) yet it is very engaging, entertaining and educative”.

Raagdesh stars Mohit Marwah, Amit Sadh, Kunal Kapoor in lead roles. It is produced by Rajysabha TV.
Raagdesh is releasing on 28 July, 2107.
