Ameesha Patel is preparing to bring her character Sakeena back to life on the silver screen after a gap of two decades. Ameesha admits to feeling a sense of trepidation as she once again donned the uniform of her iconic character.
Speaking about her return to the much-loved role in Gadar 2, Ameesha Patel shared her feelings of anxiety about getting back on set to play Sakeena again, especially given the long interval.
She told IANS, “The idea of Sakeena and Tara Singh coming together after 22 years was quite nerve-racking. My main concern was whether I could successfully delve back into the character’s essence and deliver a performance that mirrors the sincerity of the original film, which continues to hold a special place in the audience’s hearts.”

She further elaborated on her fears, saying, “It was truly intimidating to step back into Sakeena’s shoes and don her uniform. However, Sakeena is an integral part of who I am as an actress. She’s the character that resonates with me the most and has been etched into my blood. She embodies everything that made her endearing in the first film – her lovable nature, purity, and innocence – but she also maintains her strength and respect, and showcases her maturity as she embarks on this new phase of life.”
Ameesha Patel also discussed the challenge she faced in portraying the evolution of Sakeena while maintaining the traits that made her character so beloved. “Just like people grow and change over the years, so has Sakeena. The biggest challenge was to depict that transformation while still retaining the nuances, body language, and spirit of the original Sakeena and merging her with the Sakeena of today. I’ve given it my all to do justice to this complex task,” she added.
With the film’s release date drawing nearer, Patel confessed to feeling jittery. The film is scheduled for release on August 11. “Speaking personally, I’m always nervous before any film release. However, the anxiety is heightened when you’re part of a sequel to one of India’s biggest hits. The expectations are sky-high, and we’ve worked very hard to make a sincere film. At this point, all we can do is hope and pray that the audiences receive it with as much love as they showered upon the first Gadar,” she expressed.
Directed by Anil Sharma, the film boasts a star-studded cast that includes Sunny Deol and Utkarsh Sharma in addition to Patel.
