The unveiling of the movie trailer for ‘Bawaal,’ an anticipated Bollywood sensation featuring stars Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, was a grand spectacle indeed. The event took place aboard Dubai’s prestigious maritime icon, the Queen Elizabeth 2, lending an air of grandiosity to the occasion.
The ship, notable for its elegant and timeless floating design, was an apt venue for the grand reveal on a serene Sunday.
The trailer, spanning just over two minutes, masterfully blends laughter, romance, and drama, promising a well-rounded story centered around a tumultuous love affair. This intriguing saga explores the complexities that arise within relationships when personal values collide.
Speaking at the event, director Nitesh Tiwari shared his insights about the film. He said, “Our perspective on life and relationships is heavily influenced by our moral and immoral life values. Over the past decade, our values have experienced significant changes. ‘Bawaal’ encapsulates these changes in life and the transformations we undergo.”
The trailer gives us our first look at Varun Dhawan‘s character, Ajju Bhaiya, a history teacher with a soft spot for Nisha, a lively and effervescent girl portrayed by Janhvi Kapoor. Varun’s charismatic entry is accentuated by a memorable dialogue, “Create an atmosphere that people remember.”
As the trailer progresses, it provides a glimpse of an engaging exchange between the two protagonists, a delightful verbal sparring filled with quick-fire responses. When Varun’s character says Virat Kohli, Janhvi counters with Rahul Dravid. As Varun mentions Ferrari, Janhvi responds with Scooty. This rapid-fire session leads Varun’s character to remark on their glaring differences, “There’s nothing common between us.”
Janhvi’s character retorts, questioning the necessity of commonalities in a relationship. The trailer then provides glimpses into their wedding and Varun’s aspirations of taking his wife on a European honeymoon.
However, their marital bliss soon sours, and we hear Varun’s disgruntled remark, “I got a defective piece like you as a life partner.” The narrative also teases elements of historical conflict, showing brief images of World War II concentration camps.
The trailer skillfully inserts an argument between the newly married couple, during which Janhvi’s character asserts, “We’re all a bit like Hitler. We aren’t satisfied with what we have but find what others possess appealing.”
On his collaboration with director Nitesh Tiwari, Varun was full of praise. He said, “It was a dream come true to work with Nitesh Tiwari. My character has a unique arc in this film, and I believe it’s going to be a significant learning experience for many people. This film resonates with the realities of life, which is what makes it so important.”
‘Bawaal‘ is a joint production by Sajid Nadiadwala‘s Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and Earthsky Pictures, led by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and Nitesh Tiwari. The global premiere of the film is scheduled for July 21 on Prime Video.
