Veteran music composer and singer Bappi Lahiri has said that if actor Mithun Chakraborty wasn’t featured in his songs then it wouldn’t have been so super hit and successful.
Bappi Lahiri was interacting with media when he was honored by World Book Of Records on Monday in Mumbai as his iconic song ‘Jimmy Jimmy’ from ‘Disco Dancer’ film included in World Book of Records, England as it being listened in the world till today despite the fact that ‘Disco Dancer’ released in 1982 and after that, he also will be honored in British Parliament in the award ceremony named ‘Bharat Gaurav’.
Sharing his association with actor Mithun Chakraborty who mostly featured in his songs, crediting the success of his song to Mithun Chakraborty, Lahiri said, “Mithun and I shared inseparable bond at that time through songs that we did together. The way Mithun used to dance on my song was really outstanding. I think if Mithun wasn’t featured in my songs then, it wouldn’t have been so super hit and successful. He not only did a fantastic job in ‘Dicso Dancer’ but other films like ‘Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki’, ‘Wardat’ ‘Dance Dance’ and many more.”
Sharing his feeling after receiving the honor at his residence, Lahiri said, “Audience has loved and supported me since the beginning of my career till today. Recently, my song received a nomination at Oscar Awards (2017) for the film ‘Lion’ but I don’t think about that too seriously my only approach is to continue my work. I want to thank World Book of Records for honoring me.”
Talking about his journey in films industry as a music composer, Lahiri said, “I have composed music for 600 films over the span of 48 years. I have composed songs for Dilip Kumar to Varun Dhawan and Ranveer Singh but my ‘Jimmy Jimmy’ song has created a rage all over the world. Each time, I have performed this song on-stage, audience keeps demand me to repeat the song. I think songs like these can’t be created again, it just happened. I have composed songs like “Hari Om Hari’ ‘Yyar Bina Chain Kaha’ ‘Pag Ghunghroo’ from ‘Sharabi’ ‘Tamma Tamma’ but I also don’t know that what’s so special about ‘Jimmy Jimmy’ song that it has created such craze among the audience.”
When asked Lahiri whether he would like to recreate ‘Jimmy Jimmy’ song, he said, “This song has been recreated many times. It is still popular all over the world especially in countries like China, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus”
Sharing his thoughts on royalty issues of music composers and singers, Lahiri said, “If I had done a film like ‘Disco Dancer’ in Hollywood then I would not have to compose a song for 600 films and I would have bought an inland. At that time, we didn’t have rights of these songs but today, I think the introduction of IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) is a really good thing and people who are involved in bringing in the forefront has done a fantastic job.”
Bappi Lahiri and B Subhash are reuniting for another musical. B Subhash who directed Mithun Chakraborty’s ‘Disco Dancer’ is making a comeback with the film titled ‘Disco Dancing Star’.
