BRETLEE FOUNDATION DOMINATES THE RWITC ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON, March 18, 2012: The Sunday Race Day at the RWITC Mahalaxmi Race Course turned out be special for more reasons than one. There was a unique event that involved the social cause supported by ace Australian fast bowler, Brett Lee. A high tea was organized as a special invitation went out only to the women who enjoyed their Sunday afternoon with an appetising spread of savouries, sweets and tea in the beautifully adorned setting.
An auction was held to raise money for the Brett Lee Foundation and there were exclusive items, specially on offer for women. These included table linen, tapestry and designer watches. The charming cricketer, in-absentia had also ensured that there was a hamper of the finest Australian wines available for bidding.
Singer Leslie Lewis also made a brief performance despite being under the weather. Emily Harrison, founder of Innovaid made sure that the auction proceedings went off smoothly.
As the action shifted to the turf, the biggest race of the afternoon was the prestigious Shapoorji Pallonji Race. Co-owners Munchi Shroff and Dr.Tarita Shankar beamed on the stage in the paddock.
Furthermore, the RWITC paid rich tribute to Late Dady N. Adenwala by instituting the inaugural Dady Adenwala Trophy. The recently deceased Adenwala, was a highly respected trainer for over three decades before he served as the Senior Stipendiary Steward at the RWITC for 15 years. The RWITC’s tribute was a humble acknowledgement of his immense contribution to Indian horse racing.
Actor Jackie Shroff was also present in the paddock and had dropped by accidentally he said as he was in the area. The assembled crowds cheered as they called out “Jaggu Dada” and some even mouthed his famous dialogues much to the amusement of everyone present.
All in all, it turned to be yet another incredible day at the racecourse; a testament to the brilliant season that it
has been thus far. Also seen on the occasion were Nisha Jamwal,Sherry Singh,Naina Shah, Dr.Reshma Pai, Pinky Nasta, Milan and Liane Luthria among others.
