Can you believe in unbelievable things happened around the world… If no then you have to as this time something happened at Jalandhar, Punjab, one of the most prominent cultural cities in India with Bhangra & Garba as its unique features, usually people here enjoy lots of drums and dhol beats for music at its best but this time they were seen enjoying the classical music with full enthusiasm and anticipation.
Occasion was “Raag Naad II” organised by Naad Navrang, where Sufi Diva Ragini Rainu and Santoor Maestro & Music Composer Abhay Rustum Sopori presented an evening of classical music. Both the artists were at the top of their skills and performed brilliantly to leave people mesmerized to their tunes….
The programme was started with some popular and new songs presented by Sufi Diva Ragini Rainu, followed by Santoor recital by Abhay Sopori. Abhay played Raga Nand Kauns starting with elaborated Aalap and Jod with nuances of Sopori Baaj – the Meend, Glides, Krintan, Taan Patterns, Chand Patterns and various complex rhythmic structures. The Jod was rendered in the typical Dhrupad Style with the accompaniment of Pakhawaj with Pandit Dalchand Sharma. Next came up Raga Jog with compositions in 11 beats. Abhay played various Chand Patterns with much ease demonstrating his skill and mastery over the Raga system and instrument Santoor. He also sang a composition in Teentaal – (Sajan More Ghar Aye and Tarana, O Dani Dani). Abhay concluded his recital with the lightning Jhalla. Abhay was accompanied on Tabla by Sh. Mithilesh Jha and Sh. Roshan Ali on Sur Santoor.
