Kolkata, Sep 9 (IANS) Cine Central, one of the largest film societies of India, will organise a retrospective of veteran filmmaker Tapan Sinha’s films here this month to celebrate the Dada Saheb Phalke Award and Lifetime Achievement Award given to him by the government.
“We will be organising a retrospective of 14 of Sinha’s films from Sep 15-25 at two theatres – Uttam Mancha and Rabindra Okakura Bhawan – to celebrate the two awards,” Cine Central’s vice-president Animesh Mukherjee said Tuesday evening.
“The film festival was planned in the presence of the veteran filmmaker July 23 when Cine Central felicitated him for being selected for the Dada Saheb Phalke Award. Even Sinha expressed his wish to be present on the occasion. But now his deteriorating health won’t permit him to do so,” Mukherjee added.
The 14 films include “Upahaar” (1955), “Khudito Pashan” (1960), “Nirjan Saikate” (1963), “Hatey Bajarey” (1967), “Sagina Mahato” (1970) and “Wheel Chair” (1994).
