KANIKA MEHRA FASHION STUDIO LAUNCH POST-EVENT. Last evening Kanika Mehra launched her new studio at the Raghuvanshi Mills Compound, Lower Parel, with a brand new collection for Spring and Summer 2010. Kanika has been designing beautiful garments for an elite clientele for a couple of years and has established a brand name for herself. This fashion design studio is an extension of the chic style she exudes.
There by Kanika’s side to inaugurate the studio and cut the red ribbon was none other than her mentor and teacher, Hemant Trivedi. The warm vibe and close rapport between Hemant and Kanika was apparent to all present. “This is my baby. If I’m regarded as a mentor, then this means more than just visiting the studio and going away. It is with pride that I see my baby able to blossom like this,” were Hemant’s warm wishes for his one-time student Kanika.
The first guest to arrive was style diva and good friend of the hostess – Arpana Sarup Punjabi, who left happy with a couple of new outfits. Other guests present were Parizad Kolah Marshall who looked stunning in a peachy-orange Kanika Mehra original. “This is my favourite colour! The colours in this collection are perfect for Spring and Summer as they brighten up the mood and give a fresh feel to any ensemble. Kanika has used a lot of organic fabric in this line, making it perfect for this season”, said Parizad. Pooja Advani and Radhika Ruia walked in together to congratulate the designer on her success. Mrs Raheja, Kanika’s long-time client also made a special trip down to the studio from the suburbs. Several other clients and friends dropped in to wish Kanika success for her studio. Modelling parts of the collection was the beautiful Sherry Shroff, who happens to be Anahita Shroff Adajania’s sister.
The wine was accompanied by some delicious hors d’oeuvres. Not only is Kanika a popular designer, she is also a talented artist and designed the invitations to the studio launch herself. “All the art adorning the walls of her studio is also done by her”, said her brother and business partner Shivan Mehra. To describe this collection Kanika says “This line is inspired by the Mediterranean Sea with beautiful shades of aqua and coral. I’ve used a lot of Indian traditional fabrics like Chanderi silks and phulkari embroiderChanderi silks and phulkari embroidered fabrics with a contemporary silhouette.
