Star Studded Evening at the 53rd Filmfare Awards

A star-studded evening that this year’s mega event 53rd Fairone Filmfare Awards was, some stars shined out as some took it to heart to miss the glow. The ceremony was held at the Yashraj Studios. The stars who shined were one of the fresh faces of this year Deepika Padukone, she even took home the Best Female Debutante award along with being the most vied for gal in the film industry today. The show brought in two amazing actors Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan managed to make the audience go into spill of laughter by cracking so very realistic jokes on almost everyone including themselves. The duo even went to the extent of giving some awards like worst dressed lady to Vidya Balan for her dressing sense in Heyy Babby and Ramesh Sippy got his ‘Na-real’ for Ram Gopal Varma Ki Sholay. Shah rukh even dared to tease Saif by referring to Kareena, while Kareena sat with her charming smile on all the while.

Jokes apart, the year 2007 saw the release of quite a number of movies that really deserve all the applause in the world. We have movies like Chak De! India and Taare Zameen Par. The best actors for this year were Kareena Kapoor for Jab We Met and Shahrukh Khan for Chak De India, for the Best Actress and Actor, respectively. As expected, Darsheel Safary, the cute little boy from Taare Zameen Par bagged the Critics’ Award For Best Actor (he did quite a gentleman act with a tuxedo on!) while Tabu came in as a surprising winner of Critics’ Award For Best Actress for her act in Cheeni Kum. Not only by being the Best film but Taare Zameen Par even managed to secure the Best Director for Amir Khan. Ranbir Kapoor was the Best Male Debutant (Saawariya) and shared the glitz with Deepika Padukone.

Doing a balancing act pretty well the Critics’ Award for Best Film went to Shimit Amin for Chak De! India. The lifetime achievement award went to Rishi Kapoor. We also had two winners from Life in a… Metro as Konkana Sen Sharma and Irrfan Khan won the best Actor and Actress in a Supporting Role. Shreya Ghosal took home the Best Playback Singer (Female) for Barso Re (Guru). Shaan was lucky to come out shining with Jab Se Tere Naina (Saawariya) as he won the Best Playback Singer (Male). A.R.Rahman again did his magical act with Guru and won the award for Best Music.

Hosted by a Vidya Balan and Karan Johar, the evening also brought in a break from the usual gossip as the controversy seemed to take a back stage with fun in the air. The stars, who left the audience breathless, were Karisma Kapoor who waved good bye to gossips by sitting quite cozily with husband Sanjay Kapur, enjoying sister Kareena getting all the praise for her spontaneous act. For getting a piece of her coy smile, we had Gul Panag looking stunning in a silvery pink gown. The age-defying Rekha came along with Farzana to give away the best actor award; we definitely missed the Bachchans here. As Shah Rukh brought home the n’th best actor award, wife Gauri was there to cheer him up once more.

We also had some eminent personalities who were spotted having a good time here were Kumarmanglam Birla who came along with wife, Smita Thackeray, Govind’s wife and daughter, Yash Chopra, Jeetendra and son Tusshar, Shreyas Talpade, Aftab Shivdasani, Akshaye Khanna, Hrithik and wife Suzanne, Arshad Warsi with wife Maria, Pran, Kunal Khemu, Nitin Mukesh with wife, Tabu accompanied by Ravi, Kunal Kapoor, Poonam Dhillon, Kabir Bedi with daughter Pooja and her beau, Kunal Kohli, Ritesh Desmukh and a hoard of other actors. We had Bollywood sirens like Kangana Ranawat, Konkana Sen, Amrita Rao, Raima Sen, Minissha Lamba, Priyanka Chopra and Preity Zinta bring the ever so bright glitz to the event.
