FOUR ACCESSORY DESIGNERS PRESENTED FABULOUS COLLECTIONS AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK WINTER/FESTIVE 2010 – EINA AHLUWALIA – Eina Ahluwalia’s collection was called “Containment” and it was rendered on the stage with tiny miniature jars, vases, bottles and pots attached to luxurious chains to create neck pieces that were quite unconventional.

The amazing pieces which appeared as pendants in multiples were specially created by glass artist Srila Mukherjee and strung on sterling silver and semi precious stones and turned into jewellery. The sheer size of the neck pieces was so breath taking that they had to make that striking impression on the stage.
The second collection called “How I Felt” had nothing to do with emotions though Eina referred it to fear; but was created from felt made by the famous Dutch felt artist Beatrice Woonders who used the fabric in an amazing manner in it undyed forms, along with fur, silver, semi precious stones and felt. Impressive pieces like scarves in their raw form as a pendant, a giant hand muff as a centre piece of a necklace and swirls of yarn for a necklace centre gave a new dimension to ornament designing.

MALAGA BY MALINI AGARWALLA
Malini Agarwalla’s “Flamboyart” collection for her label Malaga was a mélange of pictures, fabrics and shapes which revealed the beauty of traditional India.

Giving Indian chic a new format, Malini used brocade for bags and shoes in jewelled tones. Pretty bags, potlis, jholas and clutches had traditional Indian prints and were rustic in nature with embroidery and mirror work.
Necklaces had elephants and gods in interesting forms. There was a mix of crystals, gotta and gold bead necklaces as well as embroidered bibs. Miniature paintings appeared in the centre of pendants, while wide collars had intricate craft on them with multi chains holding them together.
Mojris in brocade looked really elegant while the wedges carried on in the same theme. Introduced at the show was the Malaga line of outfits featuring brocade saris, jeans and shirts all great additions which can be worn from morning to night.
The sexy show stopper was singer and actor, Sophie Chaudhary who ended the show in a gorgeous embroidered bib with assorted bangles, belt and colourful glittering clutch bag.

ROHAN ARORA
Rohan Arora’s footwear designs had that new look which prompted him to call his collection “Naya Daur” for Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2010.
Presenting a line of hand made shoes in fabrics that ranged from hand painted khadi to leather, there was a touch of Bollywood with Hindi film posters painted on them. The fabric mixes along with screen and block prints gave an unusual touch to the footwear colours which came alive with earthy tones teamed with some subtle ones on the feet of the models.
Ankle and calf length boots appeared in shades of beige, brown, blue, orange and red with spiral heels, cuffs and laces. A few slip ones with side flaps and flat lace-ups gave the collection a trendy touch. The platform calf length pair of boots with multi coloured patches were interesting and the finale white/blue and brown/white boots ended the show on a high note.

SUHANI PITTIE
It was a gypsy inspired collection of accessories by Suhani Pittie. Beads, shells, stones, metal, studs tassel thread came together for ornate jewellery.
Meshes, coils and metal plates reflected the beauty of a prehistoric era. Called “Free Religion” the designs were a journey through times and cities. Inspired partly by the Lambada gypsies and the jatra dancers from West Godavari there was a marked earthy rustic touch to the jewellery.
The show opened with a black and white cheed neck piece with copper ball. There was mother of pearl with a steel mesh haslee for temple pieces, a multi rings haslee was teamed with coral and turquoise in the neckpiece while enamelling was used for stunning jewellery.
Soon gorgeous necklaces followed with Cheed chokers, plated cuffs, brooches, meshes with turquoise and coral inlaid pieces and ended with an amazing neck piece of multiple cuffs and studded temple piece with crescents and pearls worn with plated cuff.
The designs were opulent, very striking and show stopping in all respects and Suhani Pittie has created a great line of timeless accessories inspired by Indian crafts and traditions.
