Nargis at Abhishek Dutta at Aamby Valley India Bridal Week day 4

ABHISHEK DUTTA TRAVELLED DOWN MEMORY LANE FOR HIS BEAUTIFUL NOSTALGIC BRIDAL COLLECTION AT THE AAMBY VALLEY INDIA BRIDAL WEEK 2010.

Inspired by the beauty of his grandmother’s bridal wear, Abhishek Dutta moved down memory lane for his collection called “The Wedding Day” at the Aamby Valley India Bridal Week 2010. With gorgeous vintage Bengali touches that included tones of sepia shades, Abhishek’s creations were aimed at the summer bride with the fabrics choice ranging from superb Chanderi, Noil to Jacquard, Linen, and rich velvet.

His detailing was unconventional as Abhishek preferred to use leather appliqués and crochet with hints of paper printing and tea stains. The sheer nature of the glamorous collection was distinct and constant as Abhishek added “photua” a craft technique used for the heritage creations to enable him to remain true to his inspiration.

To the sound of the auspicious conch shell which heralds the bride’s arrival, Rachel glided bare foot down the ramp in a traditional white and red border sari with an interesting pleated sleeve choli. As the models strolled down the 240 ft ramp split into five multi level runways, the elegant Bengali elements were noticeable in the draped jackets created from the saris of that state.

Candice looked a perfect bride in a lovely printed red sari, while Shonal in an asymmetric embroidered hem sheer kurta with a tiny bikini and churidars had a contemporary look. Nethra’s ivory printed layered lehenga and long sleeved choli, Shamita’s kantha work sari with a lapelled waist coat and Shruti in a rust embellished Bengali drape sari with a bolero gave a fusion look to the creations. Waluscha added drama when she came in dhoti pants with an asymmetric hem tunic under a short shrug. The rust sari with a wide frill on the edge and the brocade lehenga with detailed velvet border with matching choli on Laxmi were great additions to the line.

For the male models that strutted through the Tropical Lagoon setting surrounding the catwalks in the atrium of the Sahara Star Hotel, the traditional pleated dhotis and sherwanis, sheer cotton kurtas, Jodhpur jacket with a printed drape which had a touch of polka dots with sepia tones as a base, was a fine assortment. On the shade card, Abhishek gave importance to white, mustard, brown, chocolate and grey green to recreate the vintage look.

Abhishek ended the show with pretty Bollywood star Nargis Bagheri of Garam Masala fame in a dazzling silver brocade lehenga with a lush velvet border teamed with a bikini top.
