Next Generation of Rock Bands Are Here. A thrilling finale featuring Pentagram and Something Relevant provides a fitting climax to Ray-Ban Never Hide Sounds’ three month long search for India’s next generation of great bands.
Ray-Ban Never Hide Sounds 2011, India’s first ever nationwide hunt for the next generation of young bands reached its crescendo on the afternoon of December 4, 2011 at the Bandra Fort Amphitheatre when the five of the chosen winners from across the country, Blek and The Lightyears Explode! From Mumbai, Digital Suicide from Guwahati, Fire Exit from Delhi and Little Babooshka’s Grind from Chennai got their life-time chance to play on a big stage in front of hundreds of screaming fans alongside two of India’s biggest acts, Pentagram and Something Relevant. The winners also took away gear worth over Rs 50,000 from Ray-Ban, the makers of the world’s coolest sunglasses.
The evening which was hosted by Luke Kenny had celebrities like Nishka Lulla, Raageshwari, Adam Bedi, Nisha Harale, Mashoom & Shamita Singha, Mini Mathur, Leander Paes,Acquin Paes, Sachin Khurana, Manasvi Magma, Shweta Pandit, Vishal & Shekhar, Shibani Kashyap, Ankur Tewari, to name a few.
Ray-Ban Never Hide Sounds 2011, had already created history with the level of participation during its eight city road show over the last few months. And after a gruelling series of concerts in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi & Bengaluru and Open Mic nights in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkta Guwahati and Chennai, the five winners were selected from over hundred entries.
“Music is an integral part of culture and lifestyle of the youth today, and Ray-Ban Never Hide Sounds has given young undiscovered rock & roll bands a platform to showcase their original talent to the world. The response has been overwhelming, “says Mr Amitabh Sehdev, Head of Marketing at Luxottica India Eyewear Pvt Ltd. Adds Radhakrishnan Nair, Publisher of Rolling Stone India, the Indian edition of the world’s biggest music magazine, whose editors helped short list the bands, “The high quality of emerging talent that we discovered across the country was a welcome revelation.”
A total of 130 bands from Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Guwahati and Chennai took part in the talent hunt. The list was pruned down to 15 by the editors of Rolling Stone India. The final five winners were chosen in a two way process involving an online poll and a jury poll with equal weightage being given to both. The jury consisted of respected musicians, specialists from the music industry and celebrities including Monica Dogra, Arjun Sankalia,, Suraj Jagan, , Subir Mallik, Rudy Wallang, Luke Kenny, Manasi Scott, Shibani Kashyap, Suchitra Pillai, Purab Kohli, Anaida and Arjun S Ravi.
