NOTE ON NOSTALGIA….A Long, Long Time Ago….The past comes rushing in at the smell of a well-known aroma during childhood, whilst at other times it presents itself in the form of a tiny, antique object we find as we rummage through our little box of memorabilia; yet at other times, it seems to be captured in an eternal moment of a ‘Polaroid photograph’ that hangs humbly on our wall for many years.
It resurfaces in us in the form of a dream or a vision, leaving us with an overwhelming feeling of nostalgia. Its mediums are obscure and intriguing like the very nature of its existence, yet powerful enough to shake us at our very roots.
Though the aeons gone by reach out to us, yet they remain chained behind the bolted doors of time. No man, no sage, no God, can change, alter or mend any aspect of the past. It remains as eternal fact, being the only aspect of the cosmos that’s unmovable, unchangeable, and unfathomable, like the divine power that created it.
The ‘past’ is the many millennia’s of earth’s evolution, and the story of her creation. It is the creator of the magic we call ‘memory’, which guides earth along her orbit and a human along his path of growth. The ‘past’ is the sacred-keeper of natural history and holds in her bosom the secrets of many a civilization.
