The Sabri family comes from Moradabad Gharana (School of Music), an important Gharana of Indian classical music. Padam Bhushan Ustad Sabri Khan represents the sixth generation of this Gharana, Kamal Sabri the seventh and Suhail Yusuf the eighth generation are representing India at OSLA World music festival in Norway. Acclaimed artists Rachid Taha, Ba Cissoka and Africando are performing for the first time in Norway at this festival. Farida Mohammed Ali from Iraq, Esma Redzepova from Macedonia, Najat Aatabou from Morocco and Cesaria Evora from Cape Verde are representing their countries.
This is the first time that three generations of Sabri family of the great Sarangi maestro would be performing live at the international arena. Kamal Sabri and grandson Suhail Yusuf Khan will join Padam Bhushan Ustad Sabri Khan with Sarangi, while his eldest son Sarvar will join him with his instrument Tabla. The Sabri family has been chosen by the Norway Govt. to represent India in this festival as they are the best Sarangi family of the world and Ustad Sabri Khan Sahab is the senior most Sarangi Legend of India.

Exponent of Sarangi Ustad Sabri Khan has performed all over world. In the year 2001 he gave a 24 hour non-stop performance in Paris. He also performed in China, Japan, and England etc. Ustad Sabri Khan expressed his happiness and thanked Norway Govt. for their invitation. Ustad Sabri Khan says “some people claim that it is one of the most difficult instruments to play- partly because it can have so many strings. But it has a completely unique resonance that can remind its listeners of human voices, and in its interaction with vocals this resonance creates a fantastic sound pictureâ€.
Kamal Sabri, the seventh generation of Moradabad Gharana is a youthful musical brilliance has already carved a niche for himself in the world of Indian Classical Music. Kamal regularly performs for all India Radio and national television. He has performed in many prestigious music festivals in India and obtained several awards including “The Best Instrumentalist’, Surmani’ and recently the “Young Maestro’ award by the Indo-Sri Lankan Cultural Council. Kamal has also been invited to share his art with the BBC in UK and the Finnish Broadcasting Co., Finland.
Suhail Yusuf History Honors student from Venkateshwar College is a well trained artist and already made his band and this band is working on fusion of Sarangi with other instruments. He gave his performances in England, Finland, U.K, Sweden etc.
