DESIGNERS ABDUL HALDER, SWAPNIL SHINDE AND SWATI BHIMTE GAVE EXCITING FASHION PRESENTATIONS AT LAKME FASHION WEEK
ABDUL HALDER’S OPULENT BRIDAL WEAR MADE A STRIKING IMPACT
MUMBAI 23 OCTOBER 2008: It was a stunning bridal wear collection that Abdul Halder presented for Spring/Summer 2009. Moving away from his regular western formal evening gowns; Abdul proved that he is an expert with traditional men’s and women’s ethnic wear too. The colour palettes were a vibrant one – so popular with the Indian buyers.
Purple, blue, pink, fuchsia, green, turq, red and orange were used for men’s stately sherwanis and Jodhpuri jackets as well as lehengas and cholis, saris, shararas, ghararas and achkans. The embellishments were dazzling gold pitta, zari and gota work and the sari borders glistened with crystals. The beautiful fabrics like silk dupion, taffeta, georgette, nets and velvet came together for a wonderful festive wear line which will be a great hit for bridal trousseaux. Bollywood star, Shweta Bharadwaj made a show stopping entry in a gold lehenga with a tiny sheer green choli.
SWAPNIL SHINDE’S ELEGANT GOWNS AND DRESSES WERE BEAUTIFUL CREATIONS
For wonderful evening and formal wear, Swapnil Shinde’s line of gowns and dresses will be great hits with the society ladies. Created in dupion, tissue silk, chiffon, raw silk, georgette, satin and tulle; the collection was in beautiful pearlised shades of Chinese white, ash grey, teal, misty lavender, blue, silver, copper and nude.
The inspiration for Swapnil was the architecture from the 20s Art Deco style like the Chrysler Tower in New York, which was reflected in the beautiful drapes, wraps and pleating of the garments. The ensembles were often designed with raised shoulders, large sleeves and collar interest. The blend of tulle and satin gave the outfits a wonderful matte/shiny effect and the elegant styles will be an apt choice for the Red Carpet.
SWATI BHIMTE’S VERY COLOURFUL COLLECTION WAS FOR BOTH SEXES
The “Rag Doll” collection by Swati Bhimte was probably inspired by the Alpine regions as a profusion of different checks were blended in heavy fabrics like wool and tapestry for a very layered and colourful men’s and women’s line. Waistcoats, narrow trousers, coats with printed side insets, jackets, asymmetric skirts, hooded covers, knit sheaths, mini tunic coats, ribbed edged trousers along with sleeve less jackets for women with broad lapels were all mixed, matched or layered and worn in clever colourful combinations.
It was a young trendy line of fun wear that will have quite a timeless appeal throughout the twelve months.
