Lakme and IMG celebrate 10 years of fashion Show by Samira Habitats

DAY ONE OF LAKME FASHION WEEK SPRING/SUMMER 2010 ENDED WITH A SPECTACULAR SHOW CALLED “LAKME AND IMG CELEBRATE 10 YEARS OF FASHION” PRESENTED BY SAMIRA HABITATS

The first day of Lakme Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010 which started on September 18 2009 ended with a spectacular show called “Lakmé and IMG celebrate 10 years of fashion” presented by Samira Habitats. The theme of the show was a fashionable journey from Then to Now and finally Forever. There were 20 Lakme Grand Finale designers who created a sensation with their creations. An interesting audio visual showed the Then of fashion from each designer who showed the
evolution to Now and finally gave their visions of style as Forever.

2000 The Splash of Colors The show opened with Bobby and Manju Grover who presented two striking wine red laser cut
suede and chiffon dresses with just a hint of shimmer for the Now section while their Forever look was an elegant chiffon shot silk grey gown with a metallic Lurex laser cutwork bodice with a dramatic headgear that added the right touch to the creation.

Monapali’s Now creations were two very innovative hands free pallav saris in melon and pista green with ornate embroidery while their Forever was a seductive white net sari with a kantha and mirror work borders. Raghavendra Rathore showed a sleek black and white gown and an intricately draped green satin looped midi for Now, while a black wrapped layered long sleeve gown was his offering Forever 2001 Shimmer Shine and Sparkle Rina Dhaka added her stylish touches for Now with a black appliqué mini and a long gown with bubble appliqué while Forever it was a net sari with lace edging and 3D flowers teamed with a lace choli.

For Rohit Bal it was a touch of the harlequin for a ruffled pin tucked mini smock and a laser cut black handkerchief gown for Now but Forever the designer had his favourite 16 tiered full circle kurta in ivory. 2002 Brilliance Rajesh Pratap Singh gave a new definition with his graceful Lurex pants and pleated floor length coat and a shining short jacket for Now while a white chiffon draped slim gown was a total beautiful contrast Forever.

Suneet Varma’s glittering net gowns with zardozi appliqué had clusters of 3D flowers for Now but when it came to Forever it was a red brocade velvet and gold 1920s coat to set the trend. 2003 Treasures Arjun Khanna presented his version of the theme Now with two jeans and cropped embroidered brocade jackets; but it was a mirror work embellished jacket teamed with a crushed panelled lehenga with gold motifs that he felt was Forever.

J J Valaya’s two long sleeved glittering paisley embroidered jackets with black churidars was the Now look, but Forever was a dramatic floral ruffled headgear cum choli with white zardozi lehenga that created a sensation. 2004 Fruit Shock
For some pure natural looks there was Aki Narula who showed absolutely wild funky colourful outfits that had a mix of tights, shorts and hep tops; but when it came to Forever the designer used everything from a sack, cane chair, quilt and odds and ends to design the most wacky look.

Anshu Jason presented Fruit Shock in her own inimitable style with two pretty as a picture little tunics with abstract fruit prints and it was a maroon gown with smudgy effects and discreet glitter that made an impact Forever 2004 Fireworks
Tarun Tahiliani went on to create Fireworks with his dramatic fringed dress and gown with corded off- shoulder neckline for Now while his look Forever was a draped bronze satin backless dress.

2005 Mosaic Malini Ramani’s two black chiffon asymmetric gowns with heavy gold embroidery were characteristic of her look, but Forever was tiger stripes in gold and black for a backless mini.

2005 Peppermint Monisha Jaising added hot touches for her two geometric print mini and top for Now, but an olive long skirt and draped bustiers was her Forever offering.

Varun Bahl’s Lurex bubble shorts and draped blouses with net jacket and dress with gold mesh top was his version for Now but he preferred to predict that Forever would be his forte in velvet and chiffon appliqué ivory shift.

2006 Happy Hour Ritu Beri brought nocturnal glamour on to the ramp with her goddess gown in bronze and a tiger embroidered choli and ornate lehenga for Now. Forever it was a Spanish inspired skirt and sexy choli.
2006 Freespirit
Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s two mixed patterned and textured almost Victorian skirts and blouses were the Now looks, but for the future it was a velvet chiffon multi print skirt, blouse and bolero in earthy tones.

2007 Freespirit Narendra Kumar gave Freespirit a day vision for the millennium with a spiked hem, detailed strapless dress and a glistening bubble mini but for the future it was a Lurex bronze pair of pants and a slim textured brocade jacket.
Manish Malhotra’s glittering shaded saris in net and silk were teamed with bikini tops for the today’s woman but his ivory panelled lehenga with ornate blouses is how he sees his women dressed Forever.

2009 Bridal Sutra Finally Anamika Khanna’s Bridal Sutra creations were for the Indian brides as two tail coat textured long jackets over skirts were for the women of today and her Forever creation was a gold ivory draped skirt and black velvet jacket.

As the 20 top creative talents – the best designers of India – took their bow, the audience gave them a standing ovation for they have been instrumental in guiding and pioneering the fashion in the country for a decade. The enthralling journey of a decade of fashion was choreographed by Anu Ahuja.

Each season the Lakme Fashion Week has presented outstanding fashion events. In March 2009 it was the Mai Mumbai show that brought together Indian and international designers, models and celebrities on the ramp. In 2009 it was “LAKME AND IMG CELEBRATE 10 YEARS OF FASHION” PRESENTED BY SAMIRA HABITATS” which was another memorable show that will be remembered in the annals of fashion as one of the most magnificent presentations in India.
