After being the colourful Stage One of Mehboob Studios the venue of many Bollywood blockbuster films was transformed into a stylish high fashion arena with a 60 feet ramp snaking down from the stage. As Mumbai’s fashion elite gathered for the opening day show of Signature International Fashion Weekend 2013 there was a stylish celeb buzz around this popular heritage building.
When 30-year-old Canadian ready-to-wear luxury designer, Mark Fast took centre stage for the opening show at Signature International Fashion Weekend 2013 for the first time in India; the only international haute couture fashion showcase in the country on a single platform, the scene was set for a stunning edgy collection of seductive women’s wear.
Star student of Central Saint Martins with a post graduate in fashion in 2008, the Mark Fast label zoomed up the fashion charts as collaborations with Christian Louboutin, Swarovski, Top Shop and Woolmark won him several accolades. Mark’s specialty started with hand knitting on domestic machines, using innovative stitching blends with Lycra and fine wool turning them into sculpted body wear. His ultra-sexy knitwear has caressed the figures of international celebs like Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Amber Rose, and Christina Aguilera.
His diffusion line FASTER gave power dressing a new definition as the Italian made collection formed a body hugging impact. Retailing around the world, Mark Fast opened the show with a feminine offering that left the ladies in the audience breathless with desire.
The bevy of six black knit creations moved from multi ridged halter minis to net panelled maxis multi coloured tasselled minis and body-con slip dresses with sexy lace hemlines.

Hemlines were angled dangerously to reveal the lithe legs of the models, glittering sequins added zing to the moulded skirts and minis with plunging key-hole backs and long tassels swished, swirled on the sides of sultry minis. The 1920s Flapper Girl look was prominent for the lush fringed gowns in shades of baby pink and blue while the sheer mesh insets created excitement for the lean long sheaths.
The textured black/grey/blue section revealed sheer tops, halter cutaway minis, micro flared shorts worn with cropped tops and sheer bodice. Neon excitement appeared for long-sleeved dresses but the solitary palazzos with a long sleeve skivvy revealed Mark’s ultimate creativity.
Gliding down the ramp was the very glamorous showstopper Bollywood star, brand ambassador of the Signature International Fashion Weekend 2013 and India’s fashion icon, Sonam Kapoor who looked absolutely stunning in a glamorous textured tasselled figure hugging gown that was a true show stealer.
Knitwear never looked more sensuous, seductive and absolutely uber glam as it did on the ramp when Mark unleashed his superb collection. It was a grand opening to a great fashion weekend with beauty, style and ultimate creativity and for women who want to feel energised, desirable and invigorated Mark Fast had everything and much more to offer when it came to making a unique sartorial fashion statement.
