Shruti Sancheti of PINNACLE presents their Spring/Summer Collection-“HER HIGHNESS” At the Kolkata Couture Lifestyle Fashion Week.

Nostalgia, Opulence, Tradition and Grandeur are the keywords for PINNACLE’s spring/summer collection -“HER HIGHNESS”. As the name denotes, the collection is royal and ornamental. It is very regal in its appearance yet has the feel of the bygone era of splendour, imperialism and extravagance.

The collection reflects the royal costumes of the Raj which were fruits of affluence and leisure. Also, elements of history have been translated in the collection – “HER HIGHNESS”, revamping the classic with a distinctly feminine and contemporary look. The focus being on unapologetic luxury and regal privileges.

The fabrics and the colour palette have been used keeping the conflicting trends prevalent before indepence. The color palate used for the collection is very subdued and pastel. The influence of western elements on Indian traditional craftsmanship can be very well seen in the collection. Colors which were in abundance during this period like baby pinks, canary yellow, salmon pink, pea green, powder blue, mint green, soft peach form the basic colour palette of the collection.

Keeping the deeply rooted prodigious textile tradition, and the omnipresent European refined couture emergence, luxurious brocades, swirling chiffons, chantilly laces, silk and satin have found their way, with the Indian royal favourite tie n dye , leheriya and chintz merging with opulent zardozi, mukaish, dori work, sequins, Udaipuri danka embroidery, gota in the unique Indian tradition of craftmanship and innovation. The fine detailing of Couture houses like pleating, tucks ,various folding techniques were favoured by the royalty in inherent Indian outfits.

“Her Highness” is a celebration of India’s royalty in the Pre-Independence era where the princely states were autocratic but owed allegiance to the British empire. It was a conflicting period of ideologies. The fashion trends of the high society followed the dictators of British empire yet were counteracted by their indigenous culture. The amalgamation of western influence over Indian tradition, the merger of Edwardian design sensibilities with elaborate national costumes and state jewelery became ‘de rigeur in fashionable circles. Maharani Gayatri Devi, along with her mother Indira devi of Cooch behar,,along with the exquisite princesses from Kapurthala,Jodhpur, hyderabad ,Rampur,Patiala who were addressed as -“HER HIGHNESS” are the inspiration behind this collection.
