The plot of “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” revolves around IMF agent Ethan Hunt’s mission to retrieve half of a key from his ally Ilsa Faust. The key is related to an experimental AI called the Entity, which has gone rogue and infiltrated all major defense and military systems and intelligence networks. Ethan decides to destroy the Entity, and his journey takes him and his team to various locations, including the Arabian Desert, the United States, and Abu Dhabi.
The plot thickens when Ethan loses the half-key to a professional thief named Grace. The Entity sends a nuclear explosive, which is defused by Ethan’s team. Ethan then tracks down Grace in Rome, leading to a lengthy chase. The team then infiltrates a party held by arms dealer Alanna Mitsopolis in Venice, where they hope to find the buyer for the complete key and learn its true purpose.
The plot takes a tragic turn when Ilsa is killed, and Grace, feeling remorseful, joins Ethan’s team. The team boards the Innsbruck-bound Orient Express where Alanna will meet the buyer. The buyer turns out to be Eugene Kittridge, the former IMF director. Grace sides with Ethan and manages to steal the key back.
