Mumbai, December 12th, 2009: Samsaara, the luxurious abode of fashion, hosted a glittering event to showcase the cocktail line by ace designers – Cherie D, Deepika Gehani, Nandita Mahtani, Tahera Peeran, Gayatri Khanna, Delna Poonawalla, Aditi Wasan, Preeti Chandra and accessories by Breathing Space, Prabha and Stoffa.

Fashion designers dressed their respective muses in party looks :
Cherie D – Rukshana Eisa who looked stunning in a purple knee length dress with a diamante neckline, Gayatri Khanna – Parizad Kolah, Preeti Chandra who was represented by Achala Sachdev, Deepika Gehani who dressed Jacqueline Fernandez in a vibrant dress, Tahera Peeran who had Sonia Mehra wear a sensual satin backless bejeweled gown, Delna Poonawalla – Namrata Barua in a white volumed dress and Nandita Mahtani who literally sold clothes off Deanne Panday’s back. Deanne pink kaftan dress got sold and she changed to a white Ananya dress with gold sequinwork. The Stoffa trio Hersh, Mallini, Priyanka, Aditi Wasan and Prabha Israni were also present.

Cherie D’s latest collection is an amalgamation of bright vibrant colors and textures….it encompasses silhouettes of different forms-from babydoll dresses to long gowns-and evening tops. The collection consists of luxurious fabrics-combining chiffons and ggts with shimmery sequins linings, creating lustrous two-tone sparkly effects! Just like the glitter of fireworks against a dark sky. This is enhanced by the subtle choice of beadwork-just adding a hint of glitz and glamour!

Delna’s range included Capsule Collections designed for the races, Cruise wear and an elegant classic dress line, which includes gowns and cocktail dresses as well as casual summer dresses. This is a more lady like, sophisticated collection, which allows Delna the oppprtunity to create spectacular and dramatic styles- ofcourse always with a touch of diamonds.

Designer Deepika Gehani showcased her new collection titled – ‘Kaleidoscope’. The name, “Kaleidoscope,” refers to the multifarious colorful and cultural elements, which resulted in the singular decorative and unabashedly flamboyance of the collection designed by Deepika Gehani for Samsaara. Trendy, pep, the collection is an interpretation of the main theme through the lens of visual styles, which lend themselves to a much more modern result, personifying an eclectic mix of character of the Indian woman who has adapted to the western lifestyle, however is culturally rooted. Neon colours, printed satin short shift dresses with pleats lend a youthful, sexy & stylish appeal to the dresses, which is a trademark for all of Deepika’s exquisite pieces.

Jacqueline Fernandez, who has been the face for the brand for the past 2 years, is the MUSE for the current collection, says Deepika Gehani “She personifies the Woman of today, who is beautiful, an achiever and at the peak of the ladder of success & excelling in every field.” Kaleidoscope is a reflection of this woman.

Under the label Ananya, designer Nandita Mahtani showcased Indian and Indo western collection in the form of tunics and kurtas. The fabrics used for this collection are mainly printed and shaded Georgette, shimmer Georgette and cotton-brocade. The collection has lots of white, soft pinks, shades of greens and blue. The kurtas are embellished with combination of antique hand embroidery, gotas and sequin work.

Tahera’s new collection ‘Rainbows in the Dark’ is a successful merging of her signature style of feminine architecture and Vintage Hollywood. The result is a line of elaborate, handcrafted vintage cocktail dresses and gowns that look and feel ‘precious’, for the non-conformist, experimental woman. It is a variation of beautiful shapes from tulip to bubble to pleats in luxurious raw silks, satins and georgettes. There are enough and more dresses for a season’s worth of dinners, art openings and galas. Comfortable yet flattering, the silhouettes are designed for the cocktail hour and beyond where Tahera excels in her love to manipulate fabric while keeping it simple.

The collection showcased by Gayatri Khanna is about tunics, which can be dressed up or dresses down and little black dresses for the party season. It has a luxurious look with fabrics such as silk satins, taffeta, silk jerseys. The colour story comprises of light mousse, beige growing into brown and forest green and also some fun and fresh colours like mauve, indigo, sunset. The tunics are embellished with crystal and bead embroidery and silhouettes that accentuate a woman’s body. Each style in this collection can be dressed up or dressed down depending on the occasion. The collection offers a variety of drapes, colours and styles to choose from. Gayatri Khanna’s muse for the event is Parizad Kolah Marshall. She will be wearing a Tunic from our SS’10 collection in rich satin with crystal and bead embroidery, which adds subtle glamour to the chic ensemble.

Aditi Wasan unveiled a glittering new collection of sumptuous fashion wear for ladies, which are exquisitely designed and meticulously crafted to bring out the best in every woman. Each piece in the collection is an epitome of tremendous and superb craftsmanship. The creations cut from the finest leather and designed by the best couture designers are excitingly innovative and refreshingly different.

Preeti Chandra’s Autumn Winter ’09 is all about the contemporary woman of today in sync with the times. She has used an exotic palette of colors like spicy ginger, midnight navy, toxic violet, root brown along with muted shades of oyster grey and pearl white. Metallics remain strong in her collection, with the season’s burnished gold, bronze and copper, however buffed down and tonal. The fabrics used are vast right from the woolen tweeds to luxurious velvets, flowing chiffons, silks and georgettes. Prints that are abstract and geometric and modern paisleys are used in monotones.

Stoffa collection is all about classic, elegant, basic styles but with a Stoffa twist. A black wedge but with a red flower, or a range of stilettos with unusual accents such as feathers, wooden beads, jute or cork. Of course, there will jewel encrusted styles where rich crystals and pearls intermingle with gold chains or pewter mesh and skin. Heels will be high and we are introducing our 5 inch regular and block stilettos. Clutches will be soft, understated in vintage velvets and suedes but again with surprising elements like feathers, semi precious stones and studs.

“The Red Carpet” A dramatic and elegant jewellery collection by Prabha. Specially designed for eveningwear, the costume jewellery is crafted from various materials and accentuate western outfit. These relatively inexpensive pieces of jewellery are modern and sophisticated.

On the Rocks! by Breathing Space are the bold statement pieces in semi precious stones and silver, only for the self confident women who can handle attention. These are classic pieces which one could wear through your twenties till your seventies and still look as elegant. This collection has series like “Rough It Out” in which rough semi precious stones with an interesting slice or a part polish are used, so as to bring about two different perspectives in the same stone. Another series called “Shell Shocked” has natural shells & different shells replicated in silver as their central story. Uncommon stones like Kyanite, Prehenite, Fire & Botswana Agate are used to add an to the surprise.
