Talaash Movie Review

What do you expect when a Thriller-cum-Murder Mystery is made with Bollywood’s highest Top Ranked stars? What do you expect when ‘Perfectionist’ say ‘Yes’ to a Thriller, Acts and Produces it and goes in for an aggressive promotion even by delaying the film little bit? What do you expect when Trade and Media starts a comparison of Teesri Manzil and Kahaani?

Yes, The answer will be Mind-Blowing. But the moment you come out of the cinema hall after watching this most-awaited Thriller Talaash, You feel like you have been cheated.

Superstar Armaan Kapoor (Vivan Bhatena) is killed in an road accident and his car is dumped in the sea. A high profile case and Inspector Suraj Singh Shekhawat (Aamir Khan) is given the charge. Shekhawat and his wife Roshni (Rani Mukherji) is already going through a rough trauma after the death of their 8 years old son. The investigation takes on and Shekhawat will leave no stone unturned to find out the Truth.

Enter Rosie (Kareena Kapoor), A sex worker who promises some help to Shekhawat. Slowly you get your minds diverted to a Murder of a Sex Worker that took place sometime back. Just like you have seen earlier in Vidya Balan film ‘Kahaani‘. At the end, (Maybe) your ‘Intelligence’ will help you find out how the Sex-Worker’s murder is related to Superstar Armaan Kapoor’s case!!??!! With (Of course) a ‘Supernatural’ climax.

This film also reminded me of Abbas-Mustan’s long forgotten 36 China Town. The film had an amazing grip, But at the Climax (When the real identity of the Killer is out) you feel cheated. Talaash too had some of it’s moment, But there is nothing extra-ordinary to talk about.

Performance wise, We have already seen Aamir Khan playing a Cop earlier. He still plays his part well. Kareena Kapoor is good and convincing, She plays a Sex Worker once more here, But (Long Back) Chameli’s performance was her much better acted role. Rani Mukherji is also good as a disturbed mother and a troubled wife. Nawazuddin Siddiqui also is a good performer in his role. Rajkumar Yadav over acts as usual.

Director Reema Katgi is handicapped by a story which is half-baked. The tagline says “The Answer Lies Within”, But unfortunately you get a ‘Half’ answer. Remaining ‘Half’ is about how you use your own brains to find out. You can watch the film if you are a Die-Hard Aamir Khan fan, Still you are left with a question, Why the ‘Perfectionist’ acted and produced this film? Final words? Watch the film if you like to see some good performances by Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherji. And if you are looking for a Murder-Mystery? Rent the DVD of Manoj Night Shyamalan’s Bruce Willis starrer classic ‘The Sixth Sense‘.

Cast: Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukherji, Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
Directed By: Reema Katgi.
