U Me Aur Hum: The greatest journey in life is the distance between two people!

U Me Aur Hum Movie ReviewThe reason that certain Hollywood movies touch the more intelligent audience is the fact that the dialogues and the screenplay has depth and one movie that shows that we are not lagging behind in such areas of film-making is U Me Aur Hum. Ajay Devgan takes you for a pleasant surprise and proves that he has unlimited potential as an actor but as a director as well. The movie is not really original, which can be accounted for when you remember scenes from some Hollywood movies as you sit watching through it. You would get a feeling of ‘Oh, I know this…’ but what sells about the film is the way it is dealt with, stirring every emotion on you and you come out with a feeling of a proper catharsis. The question that would U Me Aur Hum make the expected impact on the audience is answered with a definite yes. The movie does fulfill you every expectation and in fact gives more than you would have expected from the clumsy promos.

If you had loved Aamir Khan for Taare Zameen Par that gave you gyaan on Dyslexia and became a fan of Aamir’s story-telling capability, then be ready to get as much from Ajay Devgan who brings you the complexities of Alzeihmer’s disease. Now, one can fully understand why the guy is looking so self-assured these days. He must have known that he is going to excel in the art of film-making. Ajay deserves a standing ovation for reaching the heart and helps stop your brain working and you are in to the movie gasping to come out. Without doubt, he has shown inquisitive and forward-looking understanding and expects a wiser audience, thoroughly showing respect for your time and money. Finally the time has come for watching some fresh picks from our very own kitchen garden, without repenting on our pitfalls. Pyar Toh Hona Hi Tha, and love did happen. Wish it had been released somewhere near the Valentine’s Day, every couple in love would have cried over the other’s shoulder and everyone out of love would have started believing in true love and togetherness (but then, everyday is a Valentine’s Day when you are in love!). Now, before you feel the eulogies on Ajay are getting on your nerves, let’s get the point.

The unsuspecting plot revolves around a lucky-go-merry kind of a fellow Ajay (Ajay Devgan), who is on a pleasure trip on a magnificent cruise. Getting drunk and laughing at some times funny and some times silly jokes is the verdict for the day. He is accompanied by two unlike set of people. One is an unhappy yet married couple Reena and Nikhil (Divya Dutta and Sumeet Raghavan) and a romancing couple Natasha and Vicky (Isha Sharwani and Karan Khanna). They are total freaks out to get the time of a life time while floating on the ocean flying as birds, no restriction to drinking or merry making. This is when love happens for Ajay in the form of a waitress Piya (Kajol). As easy it might look to woo this girl, Ajay brings earth and heaven together to finally make Piya believe in his love. Complimenting each other, their union in marriage is marked with deep understanding and an undying desire. But as you feel drowsy with the bliss, the twist comes in too sharp and fast as Piya is diagnosed with Alzeihmer’s disease. While it puts the very relation with a jeopardizing situation, it also makes love vulnerable to be wiped out if the memory of Piya. The way this couple deals with this and how the flames of love is kept alive is what the film is all about.
The plot is not as simple as the description that I have provided here. It dwells in between flashbacks and present sights with a perfection to the ‘T’, which do not confuse you and the smooth transcending is worth-praise as well. The movie is all about relationship between a man and woman doesn’t end with marriage but it gets on for the ever so intricate ivory that develops into an irregular pattern of being together. The balance that Ajay and Piya show is so much like the salsa steps they do together. The movie somehow manages to send the message across and cries for love till death and in every overwhelming situation that tries you. The development of a care-free man to an understanding and a sympathizing mate and the young spirited girl to a lost woman is not deliberate and it doesn’t really shock you. Though the development of the characters in such a delicate storyline needed more care and at certain places the loopholes are pretty unmistakably visible. However, the good things about the film seem to outshine them with a perfect demeanor.

The awesome chemistry on and off screen between Kajol and Ajay is visible in most scenes. Talking about acting isn’t an easy task, with Kajol giving a superb performance though she had the most complex character to play. And if anyone says that Ajay’s performance over-shadowed Kajol’s, then that is purely because of the script. The script demanded Ajay to win the sympathy more. While the patient gets and uses every attention, the people around them are generally forgotten and the pain they under go is shadowed, so the wise script tries to focus the attention on the virtual sufferer than the physical victim. Sutanu Gupta, Robin Bhatt and Akash Khurana do an exceedingly good job with quick and subtle underlying humor that is easy and flawless. Ashwani Dheer’s dialogues are pretty good. The cinematography by Aseem Bajaj also deserves a good word of praise. The music by Vishal Bhardwaj is good if not brilliant. The supporting characters are good, especially Sumeet Raghavan is promising and Divya Dutta took some time to get into the role but finally came out with flying colors. Sachin Khedekar, Isha Shravani and Karan Khanna are ok-ok.

If you go by morning shows the day, then you would definitely love the beginning of the movie that doesn’t need a furious Godzilla or an enraged dinosaur to bind you to the seat. Human emotions are also capable of giving you a wholesome entertainment. Get ready to shed a good deal of tear when you go in with the ones you love!
