April 22, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): The Kerala Film Producers’ Association, which is already on boycott may soon by joined by the exhibitors of the industry. On Wednesday, the exhibitors warned that if the current issues weren’t resolved soon, they would shut down all theatres from May 1.
The president of the Exhibitors Federation, Liberty Basheer, addressed a TV channel on Wednesday stating that there was no use of keeping the theatres open if no films were being produced.
Basheer asserted that the present stalemate has to end and soon at that. The Kerala Film Chamber will be having a meeting on April 24 and the issue is expected to be brought up.
Producers, distributors and exhibitors together constitute the chamber of the Malayalam film industry.
The producers association is upset with the behaviour of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) because despite two rounds of talks with them last year to bring down the cost of production, no concrete steps have been taken by AMMA.
The producers association, therefore, decided that no new films would be produced.
