November 13, 2010 : National Award winning singer – composer Rupam Islam may not have received as much recognition as he deserves for his brilliant composition in the film ‘Mahanagar @ Kolkata’, but that does not mean that he is very upset. In a statement to the media, Rupam Islam does express his disappointment, but at the same time makes it clear that very few singers in Kolkata have been able to achieve what he has in a career spanning less than three years. And under no circumstance is Rupam Islam prepared to lend his voice to the traditional “plastic” music that the Bengali film industry so often demands.
Having established a strong foothold in the industry as a singer and music composer, is Rupam looking towards making a career in acting? Well, we are already aware of the fact that Islam is a very good mimic. He also possesses the talent of acting, considering his mother was a theater personality. Rupam Islam himself was involved with ‘srutinataks’ during his youth days and has not only acted but also written the scripts and directed actors in a drama during his brief career as a teacher.
So when are we going to see our favorite singer onscreen? He had been approached by directors like Birsa Dasgupta in the past confirms Rupam Islam. However, things did not work out and therefore his role in ‘033’ was later offered to Saheb Chatterjee. Rupam Islam says that he is open to acting in the future as it is something which he loves next to music.
