November 23, 2010 : He may have made his mark in Malayalam cinema, but it is Tamil cinema which interests the ace director. We are talking about Ranjith, the director behind popular Malayalam movies like ‘Pranchiyettan and the Saint’ and ‘Kerala Café’.

Though it was direction that introduced Ranjith to the world of South Indian cinema, the man wrote a number of scripts for small budget films during his early years in Mollywood. When asked what excites him more, and the director is quick to reply that it is what appeals to the audience that he works for. Be it a scriptwriter or a director, Ranjith stresses on the fact that he has always kept the audience in mind before involving himself with any project.

And at the present moment, it is the quality of Tamil cinema that excites Ranjith, the most. In a recent statement, Ranjith candidly admits that though it was the Malayalam industry which initially served as inspiration for films made in Tamil, the case seems to have changed with the passing years. It is the Tamil industry that filmmakers look up to for inspiration these days. Though the director is also quick to add that he may be a misfit for Kollywood after having worked for the maximum part of his career in Mollywood.
