Girish Kasaravalli has found an innovative way to release his National Award winning Gulabi Talkies so that it would reach to a wider audience. The film tells the story of Gulabi who faces harsh treatment from villagers because she is a Muslim.
One day, she brings a television set home. First, the neighborhood children arrive to watch the television; they are slowly followed by the elders, thus helping Gulabi to get accepted in the society. The film will be screened in the coastal villages of Karnataka with the help of NGOs. The DVDs and prints of the film will be distributed to NGOs who in turn will arrange free screening.
