Published on

December 17, 2010 : Tamil film director Shankar has not stopped receiving acclaims, critical and commercial, ever since his latest film ‘Enthiran’ hit theaters across India on the 1st of October this year. ‘Enthiran’ titled ‘Robot’ for the Hindi version came and went breaking all records ever achieved by any film in the history of Indian cinema, bringing in awards and recognition not only for Shankar, the man behind the magnum opus, but also the other cast and crew members.

Therefore television channel CNN-IBN thought it fitting to reward the achievements of this great filmmaker. According to reports in the media, Shankar is being honored with the Indian of the Year Award by authorities of CNN-IBN. The science fiction film made by Shankar with Rajinikanth in the double role lead was a box office blockbuster for the year 2010. Although made at a whopping budget of Rs. 162 crores, ‘Enthiran’ managed to recover the maximum part of its costs over the first week of the film’s release. And while most would like to believe that superstar Rajinikanth is the man behind the film’s success, the role played by Shankar in making and marketing the movie cannot be ignored.

The 47 year old Kollywood filmmaker is the deserving winner of the Indian of the Year Award. Others in the reckoning were actors Rajinikanth, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan and director Vikramaditya Motwane.
