After churning out stupendous flicks as a filmmaker, Ameer is back in action after a long time, but as an actor. ‘Yogi‘ (reported to be a remake of South African film ‘Tsotsi’) features Ameer and Madhumitha in lead roles, while lyricist Sneghan dons a prominent character.

Filmmaker Subramaniam Siva who shot to fame with Dhanush starrer ‘Thiruda Thirudi‘ had faced lot of bad criticisms with his previous film ‘Pori‘. Well, after a long sabbatical, the auteur is gearing up with a film based on bold theme.

Yogi centers on the life of an obstinate ruffian; dwelling across the dangerous slums of Chennai. Although, he roams around with bunch of his own guys, none of them knows about his past. Indeed, he has never shared anything about his past with any of them.

Incisively, an unexpected event turns his life and transforms him completely. Possibly it’s a puzzling situation, for he has to choose his destiny. Being Yogi who is not used to accept what destiny offers, he decides to take the opposite path, knowing pretty well that it is going to be an uphill task. But the biggest question is that will he succeed at it?

On the other part, a leading tycoon is in search of him, while a local mafia wants to bump him off by all means. Of course, cops aren’t excluded, as they’re on the run to him arrested, and to top it all a girl is looking out for him.

What do they actually want from Yogi?

Director Ameer himself has produced this film under the banner of Team Work Production at Rs.12Crores. It nearly took 165 day to complete the entire film while couple of stunt sequences was canned in a 51-day schedule.

Since Ameer had to project himself with a well-toned body, he had to go for gym and heavy dieting. Ameer in an interview jocularly stated that he used to have non-vegetarian meals three times a day. But as he started shooting for Yogi, he had to survive completely on green vegetables, rotis and white of egg.

Yuvan Shankar Raja has scored music for this film and this is the fourth time he has joined hands with Ameer.

Finally, when asked whether this film has any message to convey, he states that movies should be made for entertainment and not for delivering a message or to advise. Message can be incidental, but not the main focus.

The film’s audio was launched recently and Ameer is planning to release the film for Diwali along with other big tickets ‘Vettaikaran‘, ‘Aadhavan‘ and ‘Kanden Kadhalai‘.
