Smart work, not just hard work helps you make a mark: Meiyang Chang

Published on

Singer-actor-anchor Meiyang Chang, who found fame as a contestant of music reality TV show “Indian Idol“, says to find a footing in the Hindi film industry, one needs to do “smart work” apart from hard work.

With a lot of new budding talent coming up in the music industry, Chang agrees that the competition has increased. But he also pointed at the increase in “avenues to take your music to the world”.

“The digital medium is a godsend where anyone on the entire globe can savour your music and you can have total ownership, control over your content. You have the means to do your own thing,” Chang, who is set to co-host and travel across Switzerland, on a cinematic trail for NDTV Good Times’s TV show “Swiss Made Adventure”, told IANS.

“Having said that, it is always good to have a push from established labels, should you choose to associate with them. And if the song gets picked up by Bollywood, then that is hitting jackpot right there. Smart work and not just mere hard work can help you make your mark,” added the multi-faceted talent, who is a dentist by qualification.

Talking about “Swiss Made Adventure”, which is set to air starting Friday, Chang shared that the season has been divided into three distinct personalities — actress Sumona Chakravarti, chef Kunal Kapoor and himself — on their personal quests for movies, thrills and gastronomics in Switzerland.

Taking care of the “filmi section”, Chang says it was “very exciting” for him as an actor and singer to discover the places where iconic Yash Raj Films have been shot.

“Imagine my excitement when I found myself at the same railway station where Raj and Simran (characters of the film ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’) first met or when I rode the husky-sled at Glacier 3000 a la (actor) Ranbir Kapoor in ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’.

“I was on my personal quest for Bollywood style romance and lived all those movies through memories unearthed in Switzerland,” he added.
