Indian cinema is reaching new heights globally. Representing India at Cannes this year are two personalities from Bollywood. Prolific director, Shekhar Kapoor has been selected for the feature film jury. And the other is debutant director Vikramaditya Motwane’s project Udaan.
Motwane, though a first-time director is no stranger to Bollywood. He has assisted Sanjay Leela Bhansali on his magnum opus, Devdas. He has also co-written Dev D. his latest venture Udaan has been produced by Anurag Kashyap. It has been selected for the Un Certain Regard category. Un Certain Regard, A Certain Glance, or A Certain Outlook is a section of the Cannes Film Festivals official selection. Each year it presents varied films with all kinds of vision and style. The 63rd Cannes film festival is being held from May 12-23, 2010.
It was an unexpected turn of events for director Vikramaditya Motwane. Udaan is a film about the turbulent relationship between a father and his son. It speaks about a teenager, whose father remarries and ill-treats him. It star top television actors Ram Kapoor and Ronit Roy. Rajat Barmecha, Ayan Boradia and theatre actor Anand Tiwari complete the cast. The film will join Jean-Luc Godard’s Film Socialisme and Manoel de Oliveira’s Angelica in the Un Certain Regard section.
