Bollywood condemn the violence which followed post the verdict in Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh rape case, stating that “Violence” is the only thing alleged God-man has taught his followers.
The special CBI court in Panchkula on Friday convicted Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a 2002 rape case and ordered him to be taken into judicial custody. His supporters went on a rampage soon after the verdict and at least 30 people were killed and 250 injured in widespread violence, arson and police firing.
Actor Anupma Kher expressed his anger and condemned the violence on Twitter. He wrote, “Violence is what #GurmeetRamRahimSingh seems to have taught his followers. This is nonsense & Govt. needs to use full force to STOP it NOW.”
Farhan Akhtar also expressed his displeasure and urged everyone to stop the violence. He wrote, “To all those on rampage and all those allowing it to continue, please try and imagine what the victims must feel seeing the violence in support of their rapist. Put yourself in their position for a minute and picture how sad, maybe even sacred, they must feel right now. I assume that you, his followers, were taught the meaning and value of compassion. If so, now’s the time for you to exercise it and show us that RamRahim did something good. Please end the violence. Please follow the police to do their job. Please allow the law of the land to take its course. Jai Hind.”
At least 29 people died, 500 injured and public property burnt or destroyed, in Pachkula and Sirsa, in clashes between Singh’s supporters and police forces.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condemned the violence in Haryana and Punjab after a court convicted self-styled “godman” Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh of raping two women.
