The story of Dil Dosti Etc. revolves round the lives of two Delhi University hostellers, who are room mates, Apurv (played by Imaad Shah, son of veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah.) and Sanjay (Shreyas Talpade, who made a name for himself in the movie Iqbal). Both these boys come from different strata of society and have different ideas and ideals. Apurv is a rich, cosmopolitan young man who leads an unfocused life. He has an abundance of money and no dearth of time. He involves himself in passionate and romantic escapades with young girls, while searching for meaning in his life. On the other hand Sanjay is portrayed as an old fashioned boy from Bihar. He is a dreamer and an idealist who in a single minded manner pursues his political goals.

This film tries to contrast between the ‘liberal’ and the ‘conservative’ in our society. The subject of this movie is very differently handled from most college movies we have seen. It takes a look into the lives of the youngsters today without any pretences and what you see is actually the truth without any cover ups. It looks into the nature of friendship, sexuality, love and betrayal in these youngsters life. It looks into the thought processes of an entire young generation.
The music in this film, though not sensational is worth looking forward to. It’s music directors are Sidharth Suhas, Agnee and the singers in the movie are Sunidhi Chauhan, Aarti Ankalikar, Labh Janjua, Mona, Hamza, Sidharth Suhas, Suraj Jagan, and Mohan K. The music in the movie ranges from unrefined songs sung by drunk hostellers on a nightout, to a peppy party number, to a Punjabi night-club track. It even includes a refreshing song to a thumri… Thus there is great variety and freshness in the music tracks.
On the whole the movie is well worth a viewing thanks to its talented director, producer and actors. The theme of the movie is different and keeps you involved all along. Well worth a dekho.
