Oh yes, we are talking about the newly released film Good Boy Bad Boy. A Subhash Ghai entertainer, this one is a real surprise. A surprise that Subhash Ghai let himself be associated with a terrible movie like this one.
Rating :
Talking about the film, well it revolves around two boys who have nothing in common except their names. One is Raju Malhotra (Emraan Hashmi) and one is Rajan Malhotra (Tusshar Kapoor). Expectedly, Raju is every mother’s worst nightmare and Rajan every mother’s delight. As fate would have it, they both land up in the same college. Raju being the sort he is always out of class and messing around on the campus. Rajan playing the college nerd to the hilt, does nothing but keeps his nose buried inside his books. Due to some technical error, they find some of their classes interchanged and that is where the whole metamorphosis starts.
Oh, and in case I forgot to mention, there are female “leads” also present in the movie. We have Tanushree Dutta, who just prances around in no clothes. Someone should tell her that that is not the only thing that popular girls do. She barely has 5 decent lines in the movie. Quite understandably, she is Raju’s female counterpart and hence, by the logic of Hindi films, Rajan’s love interest. On the other side, we have Esha Sharvani who is little Miss Scholar and thus the bad boy’s love.
In case this piece created for no good reason needs to be trashed a little more, let’s talk about logic. Have the parents of nerds ever been concerned that their kid is not a rogue? I still need to see that. But apparently Rajan’s parents are just those who do. Even though the problem in the exchange of classes is brought to the notice of the authorities, no action seems to be taken. Colleges should really take a morcha out against this. This film is portraying them as callous.
The performances are so disappointing; it makes you want to weep. Emraan, being himself, is the same as ever. No one really expects too much from him. But Tusshar is a little disappointing, considering that he was on the way of making comedy something of a specialty. Tanushree Dutta should consider doing a film titled Item Girl No. 1. She would fit right in. Esha, well she should just go hide till this movie blows over. The rest of the cast, yes, even Paresh Rawal, fails to lighten up the dud.
Too bad the director and producer did not realize that the film was a hack of older versions like Waqt Hai Hamara, which did just as badly. Otherwise there is little doubt they would even bother. The only thing different is the music, but that is better left unsaid. Himeshbhai has directed and sung most of the songs himself which means only one thing – flat toneless songs.
I implore you, watch it at your own risk but if you have read this review, my guess is you won’t be willing to take that chance.
