Actress Soha Ali Khan launched her first book ‘The perils of being moderately famous’ on Tuesday in Mumbai. On an extremely rare occasion, Khan clan gather together on a podium including Sharmila Tagore, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Saba Ali Khan and Soha’s husband Kunal Khemu at her book launch. During freewheeling chat, Soha stated that she is genuinely quite a reserved person.
Soha, in her book didn’t hesitate to reveal some unknown facts about her life, so when I asked her how she did that in today’s PR and image driven world of actors, She said, “I am genuinely quite a reserved person. You can chat with me for hours then go away and still not know much about me so this time I made an effort. My mother also said that you should be honest because your readers wanted to know about yourself but at the same time, strike the right balance between giving away too much and also when it comes to humor like this, you shouldn’t be too hard on yourself but you also should be able to laugh at yourself in the right spirit”
When asked Soha what prompted her to write a book, she said, “I have earlier written couple of columns and essays before but to write 40000-50000 words is huge task. I wanted to write non-fiction because I don’t have imagination for creative fiction. I felt certain things about my life that I could draw from and that might be humorous”
“It is interesting to be me who belongs to this family of actors and the kind of experiences I had about education, travel and love so, I did shared that with some of my family members and friends. My family and friends are not the kind of people who blindly praise me. There was lot of constructive feedback and it was more or less encouraging that’s how I wrote this book”
Sharing her personal relationship with Soha Ali khan and revealing some interesting stories about Soha, Kareena said, “I truly believe that she is torch bearer of the family and this book’s title doesn’t do justice to her being famous or not famous because I think she is the grounding on which all of us stand on and I truly seen that the way she has compassionately and with just breaking heart looked after her father (Tiger Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi) was passing away. I have never ever seen any daughter like that, I am a daughter, but I don’t know if I could have done the way she looked after him and that in my eyes to me is a solid woman and I am sure abba is listening to this”
“I rarely get intimidated by anyone but if there is one person in the family that I am completely in awe of I think is Soha. When I am at dinner with Saif or Soha, I am like oh my god, I never going to understand their conversation. Soha always been so polite with me. She always asked me about what’s the gossip or what shopping I did recently but apart from that, I think we have found our way and if there is any one in the family that any of us turned to when Amma (Sharmila Tagore) is all worked up and fired up then there is just one person that can control the situation and that is none other than Soha”
Talking about her future projects, Soha said, “I have already finished writing. The timing was very good for writing the book because I was pregnant at the time when I started to write this book so, I used those 8 months of my pregnancy period to focus on writing. In fact, there is chapter about being pregnant because that’s the only thing was running into my mind most of the time and at the moment, project Inaaya (her daughter) is taking all my time and after that I will be doing ‘Saheb Biwi and Gangster’ next.
During book launch Kunal Khemu, Saba Ali Khan, Sharmila Tagore and Saif Ali Khan shared interesting anecdotes about Soha Ali Khan right from her childhood, her college days and till her motherhood phase.
