‘Jaane Tu…’ will remind people of their college days: Tyrewala

Dubai, July 1 (IANS) Bollywood scriptwriter Abbas Tyrewala feels his debut directorial venture ‘Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na’, which stars Aamir Khan‘s nephew Imran, will remind viewers of their college days. “I treated the film exactly as I remembered my college days,” Tyrewala told IANS here.

“Al the events are based on true incidents. Only the basic story is from the realm of fantasy,” he added. The film, being produced by Aamir Khan, is set for a July 4 release. “This film is for anyone who had a group of friends in college. You should watch it to bring that craziness alive,” Tyrewala said.

He added that the musical romantic comedy was a very character-driven film. “You should come to watch this film for Jai Singh Rathore, the character that Imran plays, and not Imran Khan,” he stressed.

Asked how it felt working with Aamir as producer, he said: “Aamir told me at the very outset not to think of it as the launch vehicle of his nephew Imran. When your producer tells you that, everything becomes very easy.”

About the film’s music composed by A.R. Rahman, Tyrewala said its flavour catered to 20-year-olds in Mumbai. “The music remains very true to the script of the film.”

The man who wrote the dialogues for hits like “Salaam Namastey”, “Main Hoon Na” and “Munnabhai M.B.B.S” said that he got into directing purely to overcome the writer’s block that he suffered. “Writing can be a very lonely business… I could spend days sitting in front of a computer screen… and nothing. Blank screen, blank mind,” he said.

And, therefore, he ventured into direction. So, did he eventually get rid of the writer’s block? “Nope, not yet,” was his quick reply. Asked what expectations he has from “Jaane Tu…”, Tyrewala said: “My hopes are that more than making money for the producer, I want this movie to touch people. People should love it.”
