Johnny Gaddar is a suspense thriller from Sriram Raghavan. Unlike most of the suspense thrillers that keep the audience waiting till the end for the culprit to be released out of the plot, Gaddar exposes the ‘most- wanted’ rather directly. Yet, the film offers a lot of scope for suspense that is created by the intelligent plots contributed by the characters in the movie. The film has got many plots borrowed from the James Hadley Chase novels.

Seshadri got an offer to make a fortune in four days, and he discusses the plan with his friends. It was an offer from a smuggling team to exchange contraband for money. All of them agree to join Seshadri. However, Vikram, the youngest in the league, double-cross the rest of the members and elopes with his girlfriend Mini (Rimi Sen).
Dharmendra in Johnny Gaddar
The story takes a dramatic twist after an unexpected accident that occurs while the gang tries to carry out their mission, and the rest of the story revolves around the accident plot. The thriller story gets on the track of suspense very well and completes its journey without losing the spirit of the story. The characters of the movie contribute appropriately in creating suspense elements at the most unexpected shots in the movie. Dharmendra, after a long gap, got an excellent platform to impress the audience with a role that typified his actor skills. He played an excellent role as Seshadri, the eldest in the gang who is in his sixties. Neil Mukesh, the debutant actor who is the grand son of Singer Mukesh, put forth an impeccable performance as Vikram, the youngest in the gang who is in his twenties. A notable change is in the role of Vinay Patak who has been familiar to the audience with his laughter. Patak’s role as Prakash in Johnny Gaddar, however, shows the other face of Patak. Rimi Sen also showed justice to the role played by her. All the other leading actors in the movie contributed their share to make this thriller plot a team’s success.
The cinematography is superb. Johnny Gaddar’s technical crew consists of the same artists who had worked in Sriram Raghavan’s debut movie ‘Ek Haseena Thi’. The Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy trio sings for the music of this movie. Other singers include Suraj Jagan, Akruti Kakkar, Anousha Mani, and Tarannum. The music is directed by Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani, and the lyrics are created by Jaideep Sahni, Hardkaur, and Nilesh Mishra. There are six songs in total, plus one remix of the song ‘Johnny Gaddar’. They include both the pleasant soft music and the high-pitch party music.
Overall, Johnny Gaddar is a total entertainment with a lot of thriller suspense and good cinematography. For music lovers, it adds a small feast of music too.
