On Tuesday, Arjun Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Ileana D’Cruz and Athiya Shetty launched trailer of their upcoming film Mubarakan in Mumbai. While speaking to the media at the event, Arjun stated that Mubarakan is most unique film in double role genre.
When asked about increasing trend in Bollywood about double role films as Arjun’s friend Varun Dhawan also doing double role in Judwaa 2, Arjun replied, “Actors are doing double role since lat 40 -50 years. I already done a film which had double role and now Varun is also doing double role in Judwaa 2 and I feel only concept of double role in both films will be similar and stories of both films will be completely poles apart. Romantic films also have different angles likewise, in double role genre, there are films based on mistaken identity or lost and found theme but our film is completely different take on double role film something which hasn’t been attempted in Hindi cinema’s landscape.”
He added, “There are different concepts in double role cinema as well. Double role are thought behind the film and using it people can create different kind of content and comic situations. I feel without comparing, each other’s film, if these two films able to entertain people and hold its unique identity then there is no better thing than this.”
Arjun also talked about his favorite double role films in bollywood, he said, “Kishan Kanhaiya which starred my uncle is my favorite double hero film because it is one of the most underrated film in this genre. It is by far most entertaining film and it’s a story of underdog and I have grown up watching that film”
Arjun also talked about his working experience with her two female co-stars, he said, “I was very happy to work with Athiya because she played straightest character in the film. The innocence and simplicity comes from her character in the film and others are trying to con each other in the film. I feel Athiya inherently has that quality which allowed us to use that in the film”
Talking working with Ileana, he said, “I was comfortable working with Ileana because earlier she has done comedy films. In this film we have continuous banter with each other for that I got help from Ileana and that was real fun. She is chilled and too professional to work with so we had perfect casting for the film”
Mubarakan revolves around Karan and Charan who are identical twins who through a twist of fate end up becoming cousins. One brought up in Chandigarh and the other in London, they are as different as brothers can be. The plot takes a turn when their families start searching for a bride for them, unknown to the fact that they already have girlfriends. Then their genius uncle, Kartar, enters the scene trying to get them out of this mess and in fact, lands them in more confusion.
This is the first time real life nephew-uncle Arjun and Anil will be seen sharing the screen and from the trailer, one can gauge the easy camaraderie both actors share with each other.
Athiya Shetty and Ileana D’Cruz are the two female leads in the film, but like most comedies, are restrained to few smiles, gorgeous dresses, and swirling skirts.
Mubarakan is releasing on 28 July, 2017.
