Tanuja Chandra who has written successful films like Dil To Pagal Hai and Zakhm and directed critically acclaimed movies like Sangharsh, Dushman and Zindagi Rocks is now coming up with typical Hindustani rom-com. Tanuja was interacting with media at the special screening of Anupam Kher’s Hollywood film ‘The Big Sick’ in Mumbai.
Talking about her next film without divulging much details, she said, “I have just finished shooting of my film and film is in editing stage. This film will be different from style of acting. I will call it Hindustani rom-com. In my earlier films there used to be violence and it used to center around female protagonist. This film will be rom-com and it will not have violence and khoon-Kharaba (Blood Shed) but it will also have female protagonist. I want to break my image with this film. I always wanted to do a light film but I used to think that drama is more my style and now I wanted to out of my comfort zone that’s why I did that film.”
She also spoke about female equality, She said, “I feel, we should work lot more on equality. I feel till the time, women are absolutely equal to men and all minorities are treated equal to each other till that time you cannot say it’s a developed society. We should do things on our own choice and till today in India some rituals are imposed on women but I feel we all should have equal freedom to do things with self choice without anybody’s interference. We are doing one step at a time and we have to work towards female equality in our country.”
Talking about The Big Sick film, she said, “This film has received great reviews. The lead actor of the film American Indian and its rom-com so I think it will be good movie.”
Talking Anupam Kher, she said, “Anupam has worked in so many Hollywood movies and now we are used to see him in Hollywood just like Om Puri used to act in Hollywood. It’s always wonderful to see him. I feel this film will be different from usual rom-com films”.
Tanuja Chandra lastly directed Hope and a Little Sugar which released in 2006.
