Actor Ashmit Patel attended promotional press conference of his upcoming film ‘Hamara Tiranga’ on Monday in Mumbai. During media interaction, Ashmit said that working in ‘Hamara Tiranga’ was no brainer for him.

When asked Ashmit what prompted him to work in Period film ‘Hamara Tiranga’, he said, “I haven’t done period film earlier and each actor tries to do something different with his each film. Earlier, I have worked in thrillers and few rom-coms but I haven’t got opportunity to do a period film where there is so much of action. This film’s script is really strong and my character is interesting as well. I have been born and brought up in Mumbai so play a villager in film which is set in 1940s was the biggest challenge for me and it was no brainer for me that I have to do this role.”

Talking about his character in the film, Ashmit said, “It’s a period film set in 1940s. It’s a story of a village and I am one of the member of that village. My character name in this film is Deva who is very raw, emotional and he thinks more from his heart. In this film, Britisher’s come to our village and force young men to join British army but these men die one after another then, villager’s turn rebellious and I am the leader of that rebel”

Talking about working with Rahul Dev, Milind Soman and Vijay Raaz in the film, Ashmit said, “I know Rahul Dev from many years. We are fitness freaks and we do workout together from almost 15 years. I had lot fun working with him. Mlind (Soman) is also fitness freak so after pack up we used to train together. Vijay Raaz is brilliant actor and I got to learn a lot from him about acting”

From the poster of the film, it looks quite similar to Aamir Khan’s successful film ‘Lagaan’ so when asked Ashmit that does their film have any similarity with ‘Lagaan’, he said, “Definitely not.. There are few similarities as both are period films who rebel against Britishers and I am also playing leader of rebel group just as Aamir Khan did in ‘Lagaan’ but story of our film is totally different than ‘Lagaan’ and if our films works like ‘Lagaan’ at box-office then I will be very happy and if people are observing that similarities in our film then they will go to watch our movie”

Ashmit’s “Nirdosh’ and ‘Hamara Tiranga’ , both films are releasing on same day , reacting to the clash of films, he said, “Actually ‘Hamara Tiranga’ was scheduled to release on 26th January but on that two big releases were lined up so we decided to release our film one week earlier. So fortunately or unfortunately, my both films are releasing on same day. In my 15 year’s career, this is happening for the first time but I think audience can watch both my films”

Ashmit has delivered more flops than hit films in his career so when asked him what keeps him going in films industry, he said, “There are lot of things in our life which is not in our control. There was time in my life where I had to focus on my personal issues over my career because that has been always my priority. Today, 90% of my contemporaries are not around and in my career, I have only one hit film that is Murder which released in 2004 so when you look at this point of view, then there is no reason that why I am getting opportunity to work in films. I believe in karma and I think because of that I have sustained in this industry where competition is so tough. I am just happy that I have been working all through this”
