Pather PanchaliKolkata, July 20 (IANS) Be it Tagore’s Nobel-winning “Gitanjali” or Satyajit Ray’s masterpiece “Pather Panchali” – it will just be a click away for netizens on world’s premier online search engine Google. “Google Inc. has evinced interest to include age-old Bengali classical literature and movies in its web-based applications and will disseminate this treasure trove to millions of non-residential Bengalis, based across the globe,” West Bengal IT Minister Debesh Das told IANS.

He said top officials from Google Inc. had a meeting with West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya Friday where they gave proposals to introduce Bengali classical literature and popular movies in its search wagon. “All famous books written by eminent Bengali authors will be available online through Google and movies would also be shown through Youtube,” Das said.

“Google also offered a proposal to maintain all the mail accounts of all ministers and top state government officials.” “We also told them to participate in a training centre in our state, since they have a huge expertise in open-source application technology worldwide,” Das said, adding, the state government has already set up an open source application unit in West Bengal.

“Initially the company officials said they would give a thought to our proposal for participating in a training institute in West Bengal. But they have not mentioned anything clearly to set up a research unit in the state,” the IT minister said.
