Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, returned to rule the ramp after a four year hiatus, with “ALMOST 24”, which formed the finale of Couture Week on the night of Sunday, 25th July, 2010. The duo will complete 25 years in the business in 2011, and the title was an ode to this landmark.
“Our collection was 21st Century India in all her myriad glory” said the designer duo, whilst talking about the inspiration behind the collection. “It was timeless elegance meets here and now, in your face, rock chick glamour. We had incorporated all the tehzeeb of the past tinged with a tongue in cheek nonchalance. It was classical meets contemporary. The way today’s Diva deserves to dress.”
Shweta Nanda and Brett Lee walked the ramp for the designer duo while 20 flamboyant dancers completed the spectacle of fantasy by Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla.
The front row saw guests like Australian cricketer Steve Waugh, Suzanne Roshan, Dimple Kapadia with daughter Rinkie Khanna, Nikhil Nanda, Nitasha Nanda, Priya Paul, Shobaa De with her daughter, Kalyani Chawla, Tanisha Mohan, Shahnaz Hussain among others.
THE RANGES
Abaan- multi coloured floral thread embroidery mounted on a trellis of geometrical bling. Sonaar- an homage to ‘Sonar Kella’, the book and film by Satyajit Ray, which weaved the surreal tale of a palace of fantasy constructed entirely from gold. Dramatic, it featured sequins arranged like liquid metal in hues of gold, copper and bronze
Shabb- The monotone of Gothic black formed the backdrop for heady multi-hued luxe.
ALMOST 24 was Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla’s celebration of their own history melded with a vision for tomorrow. It was where the lines between vintage and avant-garde, and the divisions between East and West blurred to create a new blueprint for couture.
