Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is all set with his upcoming film Babumoshai Bandookbaaz and he is leaving no stone unturned as far as promoting his upcoming film is concerned. Nawazuddin on Friday interacted with media in Mumbai and while interacting with media he stated that actors should not think about box-office figures as it dampen actor’s creativity.
Recently, success of films is measured in terms of their box-office figures and whether they able to achieve 100 or 200 crore mark so when asked Nawazuddin how he measures success or failure of the film, he said, “I feel film’s 100 crore business is not criteria for the success of the film. Some film can do half business than that. It all depends on the budget of the film. Usually with 5 crore film, you can’t expect that movie will earn 100 crores. If that movie earns 15 crore then also it earns profits. Monitoring box-office figures is responsibility of producer but if people are appreciating the movie by going into theatre then off course it’s a satisfying feeling for an actor but I feel actors should not think about box-office figures as it dampen their creativity and it gets difficult for him to concentrate on his craft therefore, I feel he should only focus on his work and creativity”.
Talking about his character in the film, Nawazuddin said, “My character in the film is of a shooter. This film is based against the backdrop of contract killing world. He is shameless and he doesn’t have and believes in any values but at the same time he is passionate lover who loves Phulwa (Character name of Bidita Bag) and unconsciously believes in equality”.
When asked him on what grounds he agrees to do a film, he said, “It depends on many things. When character is same then I prefer not to repeat it because I had already played that character in my earlier film. Other than that, my main focus is always on director of the film rather than the script. I feel good script is basic aspect of filmmaking but I feel sometimes if script is average but your director is sensible then he can take that script to another level during the shooting of the film on the other side, if your script is really good but director doesn’t has that capacity then a well written script becomes useless if doesn’t have proper sensibilities to make a film”.
Nawazuddin will share his life’s highs and lows in a book called ‘An Ordinary life: A Memoir’ co authored by one of the prominent journalists and writers Rituparna Chatterjee, When asked about that front, he said, “It is not my autobiography, it’s a memoir. It will come in the market by the end of this year or early next year. It will show my journey right from my village when I used to do farming till my big break in Gangs of Wasseypur. It is about many incidents which happened between those important points of my life”.
Nawazuddin also talked about Nepotism in the industry, he said, “People who come from outside in the industry, no doubt they have to do lot of struggle and hard work. Some of them gets successful and many of them not able to achieve their goals. My only concern is that talent should come out irrespective from the fact that it is either from industry or from outside so I feel we should give importance to talent”.
Babumoshai Bandookbaaz is directed by Kushan Nandy and it is releasing on 25 August.
After Babumoshai Bandookbaaz, Nawazuddin is working in Nandita Das’s Manto based on Saadat Hasan Manto was an Indo-Pakistani writer, playwright and author considered among the greatest writers of short stories in South Asian history. It will release next year.
