Bollywood’s acclaimed actress Alia Bhatt, admired and loved by many for her outstanding performances in numerous films, revealed on a recent Friday that her initial encounter with the world of acting was not in front of the camera, but rather on the school stage during her youthful days.
Alia, alongside Ranveer Singh, her co-star from the soon-to-be-released ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, and the film’s celebrated director, Karan Johar, participated in an engaging discussion with students as part of the ‘India’s International Movement to Unite Nations (IIMUN) Back To School’ series.
While reminiscing about her time spent at school during the event, Alia mentioned, “My school years are decorated with some of the most treasured moments of my life. At times, I find myself yearning for those carefree days – socializing with my friends near the water cooler, skillfully skipping classes, and indulging in various mischievous acts. Interestingly, it was during this period that I was introduced to acting – through school theatre performances and by participating in every competition I could find.”
Embodying a sense of nostalgia, Alia added, “Being transported back to my school days stirs up mixed feelings in me. I feel a sense of exhilaration, yet a tinge of nervousness around my former teachers and principal. Despite appearing well-behaved, I must confess, I’m a bit of a mischief-maker at heart.”

When the conversation shifted towards the dynamics of Bollywood, and Alia was asked to compare director Karan Johar to popular characters from his films, she responded, “Karan Johar is uniquely himself. There’s no character that can truly mirror him. I believe we’d have to conjure up an entirely new character to capture his essence.”
The discussion saw an immense turnout, with over 50,000 students from across 100 cities actively participating via a Zoom call.
‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani‘, which features the first ever professional collaboration between Ranveer Singh and Karan Johar, also stars industry veterans like Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi in pivotal roles. The movie is slated to grace theatre screens on July 28.
