Arjun Rampal who is gearing up for his upcoming film was present at the Gaj Yatra campaign said, if the wild life goes away there is no planet and no world.
“It is a great initiative started by Gaj Yatra, the campaign of joining the herd, to help save and support Elephants, the savior of the forest. What has happened now is with human population increasing, with development happening on such a huge level those corridors are getting wiped out and forests becoming smaller. We have taken their habitat and created ours, so it’s time to give back and protect the elephants and those corridors will make a huge and vast effect. We must protect our wild file because if the wild life goes away there is no planet and no world.” Said Arjun on Sunday.
Union Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, launched ‘Gaj Yatra’, a nationwide campaign to protect elephants on the occasion of World Elephant Day. The campaign is planned to cover 12 elephant range states.
The Minister said that an effort would be made to install the models of elephants being carved out from waste material at prominent public places like Parliament, Rashtrapati Bhawan and at the Ministry’s premises in Indira Paryavaran Bhawan.
Dia Mirza, actor and wildlife enthusiast who participated and supports the campaign said, “This is an attempt to bring awareness to people that if we don’t bring an ecological balance in our environment, then there will be no progress. If we want our country to have rivers and forests, clean air and water to drink then we need to keep our forests and the wildlife within safe. Such 101 or even more art installation will be presented across the country. Artists are working on creating and inventing artistic elephants from waste material.”
During the period of the campaign, artists and craftsmen will create life-size works on the theme of elephants in places along the route of the roadshow, covering 12 states that have wild elephants, using local art and craft.
The ‘Gaju’ mascot, which was released by the Ministry in 2012, will be helm the campaign. The campaign will be led by the Wildlife Trust of India.
