Arshad Warsi – You can’t Turn DDLJ into Sequel

Published on

Arshad Warsi is part of two massive sequel franchises, Golmaal and Munna Bhai, expressed that not all movies can be made into a sequel.

“If characters are liked and relatable, you can make a sequel out of it. See you can’t make a sequel out of a good film, you cannot make a sequel out of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, which is a very good film, but you can make a sequel out of Golmaal because everyone knows the characters. Even for that matter, Munna Bhai made into the sequel because of characters” added Arshad.

Ajay Devgn, Parineeti Chopra, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade and Rohit Shetty hosted a panel discussion at the ongoing JIO MAMI film festival and promote their forthcoming movie Golmaal Again, which is the fourth installment in hit Golmaal Franchise.

Filmmaker Rohit Shetty, who is noted for Golmaal and Singham Franchises, also added that people should not venture into making sequels just because a film does well. He says finding a “right” story is of foremost importance.

“I think film should do well on satellite and television, and once the audience appreciates the film after months of its release, than only you should make a sequel out of it, you should get the right story, not just cash the title” said Rohit Shetty talking about sequel at the JIO MAMI panel discussion.

Ajay Devgn also expressed his views on the sequel, he said, “when we started Golmaal, we didn’t thought of making sequel but once the movie started showing satellite value and we were sure that people wanted to see a sequel, that is when the second was made, it worked and then third and fourth were made”
The Filmmaker Rohit Shetty also hinted at the possibility of fifth Golmaal installment, depending on the outcome of Golmaal Again.
“Let the fourth release, let’s see how people react to it and from there we will take it forward” added Rohit Shetty
Golmaal Again releases this Diwali.
