Big B sorts it out with Danny Boyle

Amitabh Bachchan at Unforgettable San Francisco Tour on July 28th 2008 -san(31).jpgAmitabh Bachchan had created a huge controversy by writing in his blog that the award winning film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ glorifies poverty. The buzz is that the megastar has now spoken to director Danny Boyle to explain how his remarks were manipulated by the media.

He said that it was a normal remark but it created headlines in newspapers and websites and many differed in their viewpoints as to whether the Golden Globe winning movie glorifies the slums in Mumbai’s underbelly to sell it to western audiences or not!

Big B says his remarks were misinterpreted by the media. Hence he spoke to director Danny Boyle through a telephonic conversation on Wednesday arranged by actor Anil Kapoor to clarify things.

Interestingly the movie has a few scenes from Big B’s past films and the story’s protagonist is shown as an Amitabh fan. He was also invited to the Mumbai premiere of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ on Thursday, but had to give it a miss owing to prior commitments.

Bachchan says he explained everything to Boyle. He said, “I also extended my apologies if this uncalled for misdemeanor has caused him and his film any anguish and grief.”

Danny was reportedly positive.

He added, “He acknowledged my calling him and said I need not have. He draws my attention to the film being in a sense a tribute to my presence in it and expresses a desire to meet me on his next visit to the country.”

We wonder if the accolades, the Golden Globe awards and the 10 Oscar nominations made Big B change his mind!
